Original Press Release:

Trio's New MC302-K 'Drive-in' Controller

Continuing its innovative trends, Trio announces the release of the new MC302-K "Drive-in" Motion Coordinator(TM).

The MC302-K is the first of Trio's next generation controllers based on the latest high-performance 32-bit ARM technology.

Designed to fit into the Kollmorgen Servostar(TM) Digital Drives, the MC302-K offers 64MHz performance in a fully integrated compact package. The technology will allow Trio to quickly produce future models to fit in a variety of drive platforms.

The MC302-K is designed around Trio's established multi-tasking BASIC language using the powerful Motion Perfect(TM) development software. The easy-to-use 1½ axes motion controller incorporates all the high-end control functions you would expect such as camming, electronic gearing, interpolation (with master encoder), and registration, using Trio's comprehensive BASIC command set. Additional BASIC commands make it easy to setup and control the drive features and parameters through a high-speed Dual Port RAM (DPR) system. All drive parameters can be accessed for a truly integrated solution.

The module simply clips into the S600 option slot and is powered by the drive. User programs are written and storage is accomplished in a 120k-byte user program memory.

The MC302-K has (12) 24Vdc opto-isolated digital inputs and (8) 24Vdc opto-isolated digital outputs built-in. In addition, users can directly access the digital and analog I/O provided by the drive within the Trio BASIC program.

A wide communications capability is available with a CAN interface for DeviceNet, CANopen; and a second RS232 port for HMI with Modbus RTU support. Additional I/O can be provided using Trio's standard CAN8 Analog and CAN16-I/O Digital Modules.

Multi-Tasking TrioBASIC
Established in 1989, TrioBASIC is the success behind the new MC302-K and all Trio Motion Coordinators(TM). It is a flexible yet powerful and easy to use language. Refinements and enhancements over the years have made TrioBASIC the language of choice for many machine builders and end-users.

The MC302-K runs up to 3 application programs concurrently using pre-emptive multi-tasking. The command interface ">>" also runs concurrently allowing read-back of variables and parameters from the Motion Coordinators(TM) while programs are running. User programs and System software are stored in flash EPROM. The MC302-K provides an exception value for users looking to precisely solve applications such as flying shears, electronic line shafts, traverse winders, press feeders, and indexers.
