Motion Engineering Introduces 64 Bit SynqNet® Motion Controller

MEI's ZMP Motion Controller Enables Advanced Algorithms and Ultra Performance

Santa Barbara, CA - 02 March, 2004 - Motion Engineering, Inc. (MEI) today announced the introduction of the ZMP Motion Controller, the highest performance member of their SynqNet® family. The 10X increase in processing power and double precision math allows the ZMP to run the most advanced control algorithms in MEI's arsenal, giving OEM's higher precision, higher throughput motion control for their demanding applications.

"The ZMP controllers are a perfect match for our SynqNet performance motion network," noted Phil Strong, CEO of Motion Engineering. "Our customers continue to leverage our software tools and SynqNet, and the ZMP architecture is an optimal platform for OEM next generation machine performance."

Motion Engineering's first ZMP offering is a PMC form factor SynqNet(tm) motion controller that provides machine builders with the ultimate in high-performance motion control. The 64-bit ZMP controller utilizes a 466 MHz Motorola PowerPC processor for optimum flexibility and speed. With a 10X increase in processing power, the ZMP family of controllers are optimized to work with MEI's MechaWare(tm) advanced servo development environment for the ultimate in precision control schemes.

SynqNet motion control networks provide a 100Mbps synchronous real-time connection between motion controllers and torque drives, stepper drives, and I/O modules. SynqNet is the only high-speed digital motion control network that offers fault tolerance, real-time node data collection, firmware downloads, wide servo vendor support, and requires no network programming.

The ZMP controller offers servo update rates up to 48kHz, allowing optimum control of machines requiring high levels of coordination and synchronization between axes.

The ZMP controller family is compatible with the Motion Programming Interface (MPI). And code developed for XMP-SynqNet series controllers is compatible with all ZMP-SynqNet controllers. The ZMP is available for immediate order, with initial production shipments scheduled for early Q2 2004.
