NI Delivers Ethernet Motion Control for PXI/CompactPCI Platform

NEWS RELEASE -- Nov. 11, 2003 -- National Instruments today announced several new motion control products for industrial applications, including NI-Motion 6.0 -- driver software that delivers Ethernet-based distributed motion control and data acquisition integration for industrial measurement and automation systems.

By combining NI-Motion 6.0 with an NI PXI or CompactPCI motion system comprised of a PXI chassis, LabVIEW Real-Time, a real-time PXI controller and a PXI motion module, engineers can remotely configure and test their motion control applications as well as create stand-alone, distributed systems that require minimal user interaction. This latest version of NI-Motion driver software is compatible with the new NI PXI-7350 8-axis motion controller and also includes advanced reference location features to locate home and reference points within the distributed system.

NI also announced the new UMI-7774 and UMI-7772, 4 and 2-axis universal motion interfaces. Engineers can use these interfaces to connect NI motion controllers to third-party drives and amplifiers through industrial, per-axis D-Sub connectivity. The interfaces include 24 V isolation for connections in industrial environments, as well as status LED lights that indicate whether connections are established correctly or incorrectly.

These new products are ideal for machine builders and industrial control engineers who need to automate test and measurement systems.
