Motion Control IC outputs 12-bit analog or PWM signal.

Press Release Summary:

Designed to replace existing HCTL-1100 IC from Avago, Model MCP-1200 offers single axis motion control solution for servo and stepper motors, and can be synchronized with multiple chips for multi-axis applications. All low-level fast computations are performed on IC, freeing up host microcontroller for supervisory tasks. No external memory is required, just incremental encoder to provide position feedback.

Mektronix Releases Compatible Upgrade for Obsolete HCTL-1100 Motion Control IC

MCP-1200 Motion Control IC Breaks Price/Performance Barrier

The Mektronix MCP-1200 was developed to easily replace existing HCTL-1100 designs by remaining backwards compatible and plug-in ready. This is a critical replacement due to the end-of-life notice from Avago to obsolete the HCTL-1100. New and existing applications can take advantage of a new set of powerful motion control features by enabling the chip's enhanced mode. The Mektronix MCP-1200 is a single axis motion control solution for both servo and stepper motors that can be synchronized with multiple chips for multi-axis applications.

Mektronix offers the MCP-1200 as a quick, off-the-shelf, turnkey motion control solution lowering initial development costs, increasing reliability, and decreasing time-to-market. No expertise in motion control algorithms or servo control is necessary to implement a high-performance servo control system. All the low-level fast computations are performed on the MCP-1200 freeing up the host micro-controller for supervisory tasks. No external memory is required, just an incremental encoder to provide position feedback. The chip outputs a 12-bit analog or PWM signal to control the motor drivers. A single chip motion control solution for both servo and stepper motors will simplify multi-axis applications that incorporate both types of motors.

The MCP-1200 is available for immediate delivery in the PLCC 44 lead package at a price point of $16.10 at 1000 pcs. A QFN-44 package is also in the works for small package requirements measuring only 7mm x 7mm. An evaluation board is available as a test bed that incorporates an 8051 based micro-controller for software development. Commands can be issued to the chip via a host terminal program to get familiar with the register based features of the chip.
