ADLINK Announces cPCI-8168, 6U CompactPCI 8 Axes Motion Control Card for Electric Assembly and Semiconductor Machinery Applications



Irvine, CA (July 15, 2002) - ADLINK Technology Inc., the leading supplier of open-platform PC based measurement and automation equipment, today introduced the cPCI-8168, a 6U CompactPCI, 8 axes motion control card capable of integrating into 6 systems cards to control up to 48 motors. The cPCI-8168 is based on the CompactPCI bus with hot swappable features that allows for quick and easy maintenance without affecting a live system. The cPCI-8168 is a robust motion controller card designed to suit electric assembly and semiconductor machinery applications.

The cPCI-8168 is designed with differential input/output signals to reduce noise interference, and generates high frequency pulse trains. These pulses control motor speed and positioning. Command output options include DIR/OUT mode and CW/CCW mode, providing an easy access to various stepper or servo motor drivers. The cPCI-8168 also offers various operation modes: continuous motion, absolute move, relative move, simultaneous move, change speed on the fly, linear interpolation, and home return.

The cPCI-8168 consists of advanced technology controllers for all motion applications, giving full-feature capability for the most sophisticated requirements. These controllers perform motion trajectory control and fully coordinated circular, linear, and continuous control in either embedded real-time motion operation or host-centric programming environments. It also offers contouring capability for more complex moves. The hardware linear interpolation between two axes is optimized to reduce software computation effort.

Incremental encoder interface is used for positioning feedback. The encoder counters provide positioning information to correct positioning errors generated by inaccuracy caused by mechanical vibrations. The differential-type encoder feedback also avoids noise interference. The 28-bit counter covers the positioning range of most applications. The dedicated I/O interface for end-limit and origin is especially useful for system integration.

cPCI-8168 software drivers support VC++/VB programming on Windows NT/98/2000 platform with DLL. As with all ADLINK motion products, cPCI-8168 is designed for powerful yet simple applications in both point-to-point and advanced multi-axis coordinated motion systems. Unlike stand-alone distributed motion control and proprietary systems, ADLINK's PC-based motion control solutions enable users to reduce the over all system cost, and at the same time, increase the flexibility of the system.
