Toshiba 60V N-Channel High Voltage Power MOSFET for White LED Backlighting

Low ON-Resistance White LED Driver for Car Navigation Monitors and Medium Sized Notebook PCs

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 15 /-- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., (TAEC)* is now offering a 60 volt power MOSFET driver for white light emitting diodes (LEDs) targeted for LCD panel backlight applications such as car navigation monitors and 12-inch notebook PCs. These applications typically require high voltage of 24V to 48V to activate 8 to 16 white LEDs in series. The Toshiba SSM3K318T n-channel power MOSFET is small in size and well-suited to boost a battery voltage to the level needed to turn on the LED array, with both high speed switching and low ON-resistance (R(DS(ON))) for higher efficiency.

The SSM3K318T features low ON-resistance of 83.5 milliohms (typ.) at V(GS) = 10V, and low capacitance of 235 pF at V(DS) = 30V. The new device is available in a compact TSM package that measures 2.9mm x 2.8mm x 0.7mm.

"The low R(DS(ON)) and capacitance of these devices increase efficiency and translate into longer battery life for mobile applications using white LEDs as backlights for the display," said Talayeh Saderi, business development engineer, RF and small signal devices, for TAEC.

Toshiba's broad selection of low ON-resistance small signal MOSFETs (S-MOS) is suitable for high-speed switching devices in portable electronics equipment. The MOSFETs feature among the lowest ON-resistance and lowest capacitance in the industry and are designed to save space while meeting designers' requirements.
