Morgan Technical Ceramics Showcases Dental Abutments and Ceramic-To-Metal Seals at Md&M West

18-12-2007

Morgan Technical Ceramics (MTC), a leading manufacturer of innovative ceramic, glass, precious metal, piezoelectric and dielectric materials, will exhibit at booth #2282 at MD&M West held at the Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, CA, from January 28-31, 2008. MTC will showcase state-of-the-art medical components including Ceramic Injection Molded (CIM) dental abutments and ceramic-to-metal assemblies for analytical instrumentation.

The innovative CIM dental abutments from MTC offer a more natural color than titanium improving the aesthetic appearance for the patient, while the ceramic material used gives the product an inherent biocompatibility that gives improved soft tissue management after implantation. MTC recently achieved ISO13356 Implants for Surgery using Non-Metallic Materials approval for the Y-ZTP Zirconia material used in all its dental abutments.

MTC is working with a number of leading OEM customers in this sector to help them achieve new, highly complex designs cost-effectively. Manufacturing tolerances on these CIM parts are typically in the range ±0.3%, and the company is producing volumes typically upwards of 1,000 pieces faster, more cost-effectively and with better repeatability than could ever be achieved using CNC-machining.

Ceramic-to-metal assemblies from MTC provide a highly-durable hermetic seal, excellent electrical properties and resistance to extreme temperatures for demanding medical instrument applications. Typically utilizing polycrystalline Alumnia (94%-99.9%) insulators, MTC ceramic-to-metal seals provide a more robust and durable seal than glass seals. They maintain their hermeticity in a variety of harsh environments, such as high and low (cryogenic) temperature, corrosive, high pressure and high vacuum.

All components of the ceramic-to-metal assembly must be carefully matched and well-integrated. MTC can ensure quality and consistency by internally sourcing ceramics, alloys and brazing materials, and by drawing on decades of manufacturing expertise to provide integrated, complete assemblies. These assemblies are fully tested with total materials traceability.

MTC develops and produces a wide range of products for medical applications from an extensive range of materials, including advanced ceramics, metal alloys, engineered coatings and piezoceramics. MTC components are widely used in surgical instrumentation, diagnostic equipment and implantable applications such as hip joint replacements and cochlear implants.
