Emerson Network Power Introduces Enhanced Rack-Mounted Monitoring Device

Liebert vEM-14 Provides Visibility Inside Racks and Small Spaces to Prevent Overheating and Power Overload

Columbus, Ohio [June 12, 2007] - Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR) and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity(TM), today introduced the Liebert vEM-14, a compact, network-enabled device that combines environmental monitoring with power management to deliver a comprehensive view of conditions within a rack or small data center. The Liebert vEM-14 supports remote monitoring in real time from any Web-enabled computer.

The Liebert vEM-14 is equipped with four sensor inputs, a built-in temperature and humidity sensor, 10 dry-contact points (for door switches, clogged filter alarms, generator alarms) and two serial ports (for power strips). Its controller supports any of the Liebert sensors, including water detection, automatically discovering which sensors are connected. The compact size of the device allows flexible deployment in 1U of rack space, on a wall or a desktop.

In addition to real-time monitoring from any Web browser, the system supports automatic paging or email notification based on up to four levels of alarms: high critical, high warning, low warning and low critical. Working with Liebert MP Advanced Power Strips, the system can trigger alerts for strip power, voltage and current. It also enables control of individual receptacles for "on," "off" and "reboot" status for power strips that have that capability.

"As racks and other small spaces support higher density equipment, there's an increased need for visibility into conditions inside the rack," said Tom McNamara, Liebert monitoring product manager for Emerson Network Power. "The Liebert vEM-14 provides a platform for comprehensive monitoring of conditions inside the rack that can prevent costly downtime and equipment damage, while providing greater flexibility in how IT equipment is managed."

The Liebert vEM-14 can send data for analysis to Liebert Nform monitoring software or to network management systems using SNMP traps. It provides Web interface using HTTP, user authentication, e-mail and paging notification, graphing and SNMP support.
