FAG Offers Easy Check as Affordable Early Warning System for Constant Speed Machinery

Industrial Services Unit Develops Innovative Vibration Monitor

Danbury, CT April 24, 2003 - FAG's Industrial Services unit, F'IS, has developed Easy Check, a low cost, condition monitoring instrument that makes continuous measurement of vibration and temperature easy and affordable. Because equipment defects can be detected at an early stage by means of close and continuous vibration monitoring, costly breakdowns and downtime can be avoided. Once fixed to a machine, Easy Check's "early warning system" triggers an immediate alarm when detecting signs of possible equipment imbalances caused by increased temperatures, alignment errors or bearing damage.

Easy Check is simple to install and provides continuous monitoring of constant speed machinery such as electric motors, pumps and fans. It measures vibration directly at the machine at a broadband range, calculating velocity as well as demodulated acceleration used to detect bearing faults. Easy Check is easily bolted to a machine, or can be attached with a magnetic base, eliminating the need for additional wiring. It can even be mounted on the lubrication fitting on the bearing block. The battery-operated system measures operating parameters at one-minute intervals, and the operating status is visible at all times via an LED display.

"There are valid reasons why Easy Check carries that name," says FAG product manager, Dennis Ducalo. "It's easy to mount, easy to operate and easy to read. Easy Check is fully self contained and offers real value by enabling maintenance people to continuously monitor constant rotational speed at a very affordable rate."

Today, most conventional monitoring techniques have their disadvantages. Traditional vibration monitoring systems are costly and are typically used only when equipment damage can spread quickly, or when a shutdown - even a brief one - can lead to heavy expenses. At the same time, portable measurement systems typically require monitoring by in-house trained personnel, with an experienced vibration expert needed to ensure a reliable diagnosis. And short monitoring intervals are often required to identify early damage, which can be a time consuming and expensive process.
