Moldbase Routine adds on to software mold tool.

Press Release Summary:

EMX Expert Mold Extension moldbase assembly and detailing tool is add-on to company's Pro/Engineer mold tool software. It decreases time to create, customize, and detail moldbase assemblies and components for plastic injection and die cast molds. It also handles moldbase operations such as clearance cuts, tapped holes, component assembly and ejector pin trimming, and lets engineer select and preview 3D components and assemblies in real-time.

PTC Announces Expert Moldbase Extension 3.0 for Pro/ENGINEER

PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the product development company, today announced a new moldbase add-on for Pro/ENGINEER, Pro/ENGINEER Expert Mold Extension (EMX). EMX is a knowledge-based moldbase assembly and detailing tool that provides enhanced functionality to the existing Pro/ENGINEER mold tool. Created specifically for mold designers, this tool facilitates the mold design process and improves productivity.

Pro/ENGINEER EMX dramatically decreases the time it takes mold designers to create, customize and detail moldbase assemblies and components needed for plastic injection and die cast molds. Pro/ENGINEER EMX provides "smart," automated moldbases and mold components. After components are placed, operations such as clearance cuts and drilled and tapped holes are automatically performed on the appropriate neighboring plates and components. This process relieves the mold designer of time consuming and repetitive mold detailing tasks. In addition, complex design tasks are made simple and the learning curve is radically shortened through a revolutionary new user interface.

"We believe that Pro/ENGINEER EMX is a revolutionary approach to moldbase design and detailing. Pro/ENGINEER EMX is an intuitive, knowledge-based tool that allows mold designers to hone their skills and establish their own best practices in the mold design process," said Brian Shepherd, senior vice president, PTC MCAD & Solutions Marketing. "It is important for us to provide software solutions that save designers time, decreasing their time-to-market and ultimately, improving their bottom line."

Hon Hai Precision Component Manufacturing, which operates in the U.S. as Foxconn Electronics, Inc., has seen a dramatic improvement in its mold design process by using Pro/ENGINEER EMX. "After implementing EMX in one of our factories, we have experienced an increase in mold production by 270% in just two months," said Shang-Heng Shieh, R&D manager, Hon Hai. "PTC's Pro/ENGINEER EMX has enabled us to capture our own design best practices directly within the mold components and assemblies. This knowledge can then be passed along to other designers, saving us valuable time and money. We can put more focus on creating the best products rather than training new or less experienced designers."

The mold design functionality in Pro/ENGINEER EMX allows designers to:

Easily design, customize and detail moldbase assemblies and components

Automatically perform moldbase operations such as clearance cuts, tapped holes, component assembly, ejector pin trimming, etc.

Easily select and preview 3D components and assemblies in real-time, as they would actually be situated in the moldbase, before automatic placement

Have access to pre-made components and assemblies from over 15 moldbase and component suppliers, so building model libraries is unnecessary

Automatically create drawings for assemblies and components including BOM with balloon notes and hole charts

Automatically verify entire mold opening sequence including slider, lifter, and ejector actuation

Pro/ENGINEER EMX is available for Pro/ENGINEER 2001 and 20002.
