Modules offer sixteen 16 bit D/A converters per board.

Press Release Summary:

IP231 Industry Pack mezzanine module allows simultaneous D/A conversion across all channels, which enables unit to write sixteen 110 V outputs in 135 seconds for high-speed processing. Users can populate VME, PCI, or CompactPCI mezzanine carrier card with up to 5 IP231 modules for high-density single-slot solution. Optional versions offer extended temperature ratings for harsh environments.

New Industry Pack Analog Output Modules Provide a Triple High Solution with High Channel Density, High Speed Processing and High Resolution D/A Conversion

Acromag introduces IP231 Industry Pack mezzanine modules with up to sixteen 16-bit D/A converters per board for faster, more precise data processing with better cost and space-efficiency.

Acromag's new IP231 analog output Industry Pack modules provide up to sixteen output channels, each with its own high-resolution 16-bit D/A converter. Simultaneous D/A conversion across all channels enables the IP231 to write sixteen 110V outputs in just 135S for very high speed processing. Since the IP231 is a single-size mezzanine card, users can populate a VME, PCI, or CompactPCI mezzanine carrier card with up to five IP231 modules for a single-slot solution with extremely high channel density. This approach preserves card slots for other uses and greatly reduces overall costs. A 16-channel IP231 carries a list price of $1250 while an 8-channel model is available for $950. Other optional versions offer extended temperature ratings for harsh environments.

Individual 16-bit D/A converters (DACs) are used on each channel because it allows independent programming for maximum speed and accuracy. It also eliminates glitches that may occur on output boards using sample and hold amplifiers multiplexed to a single DAC. Users can update each output when it is written to or update all outputs simultaneously. Simultaneous outputs better simulate linear movements in motion processes. And with double-buffered data latches, new data can be written to each channel before the simultaneous trigger updates the outputs.

The bipolar 110V outputs are suitable for driving a wide variety of devices and have a high load capability that can source up to a 5mA current. Software calibration maintains optimal accuracy using coefficients stored in EEPROM. Other features include failsafe outputs that reset to 0 volts following a power up or reset.

For easy integration of the Industry Pack modules with Windows. applications, Acromag developed Win32 DLL drivers. These drivers are compatible with Windows XP Embedded applications. Demonstration programs, with C source code included, provide a fast and simple way to test the operation of the I/O modules before developing your actual application.

For connectivity with real time application programs, Acromag offers C libraries for VxWorks., QNX., and other operating systems. The libraries provide generic routines (source code included) to handle reads, writes, interrupts, and other functions. Demonstration programs enable the developer to quickly exercise the I/O modules before attaching the routines to the application program. This diagnostic tool can save hours of troubleshooting and debugging. Free Linux example programs are also available.

Acromag, a multimillion dollar international corporation, has been manufacturing and developing measurement and control products for more than 45 years. They offer a complete line of embedded I/O products including bus boards, mezzanine modules, wiring accessories, and software.
