Portwell Announces Qseven Module Supporting Industrial Temperature Range

FREMONT, CALIF. - July 7, 2009 - American Portwell Technology, Inc., (http://www.portwell.com) a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., a world-leading innovator in the embedded computing market and a member of the Intel® Embedded and Communications Alliance (Intel ECA), announces good news for OEMs and ODMs whose applications require a wide operating temperature range: both the PQ7-M102XL module board and its companion PQ7-C100XL 3.5" ESB developer carrier board support an industrial temperature range of -40ºC to 85ºC. This makes it the ideal choice for a variety of medical, industrial control, government and military applications. The new PQ7-M102XL module board is the very latest in the company's growing portfolio of Qseven modules. At a mere 70mm x 70mm (2.75" x 2.75"), the ultra compact PQ7-M102XL module board supports the Intel Atom(TM) processor Z510PT (1.1 GHz) or Z520PT (1.33 GHz) series and the Intel System Controller Hub US15WPT. The PQ7-M102XL module board features 512MB system memory; dual independent display by LVDS/SDVO; one Gigabit Ethernet; eight USB ports; expansion of two SATA, one SDVO, one PCI-E x1, LPC interface and high definition audio interface.

The PQ7-C100XL developer carrier board is based on Portwell's popular 3.5" ESB form factor and features one VGA port and one LVDS port for dual independent display; one Gigabit Ethernet port; seven USB ports; two SATA ports; one SDIO socket; expansion via one mini PCI-E; plus an onboard 12V DC to DC circuit for DC-in applications.

Available now, Portwell's PQ7-M102XL module board with companion PQ7-C100XL developer carrier board is the ideal solution for low power, wide temperature and fanless devices in applications such as medical, outdoor embedded system, industrial control, gaming machine and COTS military markets.

Efficient, Effective and Economical Solutions Using Qseven Technology "When designing the PQ7-M102XL and PQ7-C100XL, we applied the successful mother-daughter relationship of our COM Express form factor and came up with an even more compact, efficient and economical combination," says Jimmy Chang, product marketing manager, American Portwell Technology. "The ultra low power Intel Atom processor Z510PT/Z520PT and SCH are housed on the PQ7-M102XL module board and the 3.5" ESB form factor-based PQ7-100CXL serves as a development kit carrier board with all of the necessary connectors. In this way," Chang explains, "we were able to maximize Qseven technology to produce a unit that not only outputs under 5W for fanless applications, but also supports a wide -40ºC to 85ºC industrial temperature range."
"Not only does the 70mm x 70mm unit provide a compact footprint, customers will also benefit from the overall cost savings we achieved from the smaller components used to make the boards," Chang adds.

Expanding Qseven Portfolio with Extended Temperature Support The Qseven module has been enhanced by Portwell in response to market demand for an even smaller form factor to take advantage of the Intel Atom processor's already compact design.

"Since its initial inception, Portwell's expanding Intel Atom-based Qseven portfolio has now grown to include industrial temperature range support," says Frank Shen, American Portwell Technology's product marketing director. "Today, our Atom-based product family features Q7, Nano-ITX, ECX, UMPC, ETX, COM Express and Mini-ITX. And, of course, customers still benefit from the peace of mind they get from the COTS availability as well as long life cycle support inherent with Portwell products," Shen confirms.
