Audiovox Launches 'Versatile Video'-And Unveils New Marketing Strategy for Mobile Video Entertainment

New Offerings Will Help Company Maintain Leading Market Share In Mobile Video

Las Vegas NV - January 2004 - Audiovox took front and center stage at the Consumer Electronics Show when it introduced a whole new line-up of mobile video bag products, aptly named 'Versatile Video'. The new products feature automotive-rated components with sturdy padded bags that protect the systems and mount them securely in the vehicle. Versatile Video models have the capability to add additional screens and wireless headphones so that multiple users can enjoy the video experience. Using wireless FM modulation, they play through the car's audio system, improving the sound quality for all listeners. Audiovox video systems also allow users to play video games in addition to watching their favorite DVDs.

Audiovox's established Video-In-A-Bag sales have been on the rise since last April when the company introduced the Eddie Bauer designer-line, consisting of the company's five bag models with accessories, which have fueled sales ever since. The Bauer program will continue through 2004 but the buzz around CES has been about the company's new Versatile Video products.

"Our Versatile Video products deliver for the retailers. We have the right products with a variety of screen sizes; we have the right accessories with add-on screens and batteries, and we have the right packaging. But most important, our video products are easily adaptable for both home use and the road," said Tom Malone, Senior VP Sales for Audiovox Electronics Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Audiovox Corporation (NASDAQ:VOXX). "Mobile entertainment is not about plopping a portable DVD player on a child's lap and hoping they will stay entertained during a trip. Mobile entertainment is about having the right products for the most enjoyable mobile entertainment experience."

Malone says that 'Versatile Video' is the perfect name for these new bag products. "It's a literal translation; they are perfect for the mobile video experience and are versatile enough to be used as a portable system when the opportunity arises. But they are so much more than any portable DVD system. They include IR Transmitters for wireless headphones, a battery, and a wireless FM modulator. The carry bags are also bigger with more room for storing key accessories, like cables adapters, etc."

The Versatile Video line is available in two categories, the VBP-Series, designed for in-vehicle and portable use and the D-Series models, which are designed for both home and vehicle use, featuring bigger screens and speakers for home use.

The Versatile Video "D"-Series consists of five models with screen sizes ranging from 15.4 to 1-inches. All models feature slot-type DVD players, FM modulators (in the cigarette lighter adapter), IR transmitters for the wireless headphones (included) and removable speakers, which, Malone says, makes them very versatile for in-car and home use. All models are cable-ready and available in prices ranging from $699 to $899. Note to editors: Please see attached sheet for product specifications.

The Versatile Video VBP-Series consist of seven models, all with DVD players. Screen sizes range from 8 to 4.5-inches; some models offer rotateable screens. Additional features include IR transmitters for wireless headphones, FM modulators (in the cigarette lighter adapter), stereo speakers, rechargeable lithium-ion battery and mounting/carry bag. MSRPs range from $269 to $469.

"Obviously, we are very excited about these new products," says Malone, "they are the next step in the evolution of our current Video-In-A Bag line that helped put Audiovox in the leadership position we now enjoy." These five models all feature DVD players with screens in the 5-plus inch range. Prices range from $379 to $479. All models feature cigarette lighter and AC/DC adapters, carrying bags and mounting straps. Some models include dual speakers and optional monitor ports for additional screens. Malone concluded, "We continue to stay on top of the mobile video marketplace because of our commitment to every facet of the market. We are innovative with our overheads and custom headrest solutions and we continue to provide our distribution with quality bag products that excite consumers with their features and virtually fly off the shelves."
