MobileRobots New MT490 Mobile Robotic Workstation

Follows staff, carrying data display, equipment and supplies

Amherst, NH, USA - MobileRobots Inc unveiled its MT490 mobile robotic workstation today and launched a brand new website, both designed to help robot application developers speed new robotic aids to staff in hospitals, labs and offices.

The MT490 is the foremost technology for service robots with personnel interaction. The MT490 has an elevated user interface and provides comfortable access to the data display for staff members. A raised camera now operates at the best level for inspection and monitoring. An onboard PC for value-added developers' software rounds out the MT490's features.

MT490 onboard display can be used to access data and task the robot. The robot carries up to 50 additional lbs of meds, sensors, equipment and supplies. In addition to acting as a porter for nurses or other laden professionals, the robot can simultaneously collect valuable information. The MT490 can check sensors for hazards, such as radiation, help nurses track patient care, for better outcomes and inventory equipment. It can also be tasked from its touchscreen and sent for needed supplies and deliver them back.

Such assistance is critical to providing healthcare to America's aging population. According to a report by the US Department of Health and Human Services, the US will be short more than 300,000 nurses in 2010. The MT490 can aid in lowering job stress and increase the quality of care while reducing turnover and absenteeism. A mobile workstation that follows or brings equipment upon request from a smart phone, provides affordable, dependable support to nurses who walk as much as five miles a day.

Explains MobileRobots Director of Technology Matthew Vestal, "We've developed a versatile platform, based on proven Motivity technologies, to jump-start robot applications for hospital- and facilities-management applications. Applications include: data access, asset-tracking, process logging and sensor modelling as well as fetch-n-carry capabilities. We're working with several companies already on applications to improve the quality of care in hospitals."

MT490 gets its autonomous robot abilities from MobileRobots Motivity technology. Motorized devices with Motivity self-navigate within minutes of entering a building, using natural features. Unlike older mail carts that follow lines on the floor, Motivity systems travel anywhere permitted. Motivity is people-aware, avoids obstacles and seeks an alternative route if a corridor is blocked. The MT490 can follow people, be called from a smart phone or sent on a mission from its touchscreen. Motivity-based robots such as MT490 can be installed in as little as an hour. The robot and its sensors can be monitored and operated from Motivity's MobileEyes interface remotely as well as at the touchscreen.

MobileRobots newly designed website adds a new level of support for the OEM and Value Added Reseller communities. Enhanced OEM VAR support provides easy access to information regarding application development. Vistors can now access a host of application examples and learn more about the technology that helps speed delivery of robot applications to market.
