Zebra's Rugged New RW 220 Mobile Printer Delivers Big Features, Small Receipts for Field Service and Route Accounting Applications

Durable mobile thermal printer supports various payment processing applications in both indoor and outdoor environments

VERNON HILLS, Ill., April 10 / Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:ZBRA), a global leader in delivering on-demand printing solutions for business improvement, today released the RW 220, a rugged mobile thermal printer suitable for indoor/outdoor receipt printing and payment processing applications, along with specialty media designed to withstand hot and cold temperature extremes, resist sunlight and UV light, and stand up to outdoor use. The Zebra printer and supplies combination offers a complete solution for field service and route accounting operations that require issuance of smaller receipts and on-demand documentation.

The RW 220 -- designed for printing tickets or receipts up to two inches wide -- is a smaller version of the highly successful RW 420 that was released by Zebra last year. The IP 54-rated RW 220 withstands exposure to water and dust, and can resist extreme temperature, precipitation and repeated six-foot drops to concrete. It provides route delivery, field service and other mobile workers an extremely durable option for printing receipts supported by advanced security standards, including WPA and virtual private networks (VPN).

With optional magnetic stripe and smart card readers, the RW 220 is an ideal complement for transacting payment processing applications. The printer has optional Bluetooth and highly secure 802.11b wireless connectivity, which supports the advanced protocols specified in many enterprise network security standards.

"Connectivity and durability set the RW 220 apart. It has advanced wireless security for use in many networks, and the ruggedness to go into many work environments," said Bob Danahy, Zebra's director of global mobile and wireless technology. "Plus, the RW series is available with Zebra Complete(TM), a convenient bundle of Genuine Zebra supplies and a ZebraCare(TM) service protection plan that makes it easy for fleet operators to ensure their mobile printers operate at peak performance, year after year. The RW 220, with Genuine Zebra supplies and ZebraCare service, is an ideal choice for compact and reliable printing on the road."

The RW 220 includes many features and options popular with mobile workers including: a snap-in-vehicle mounting cradle; standard USB, large media capacity; 4MB Flash and 8MB RAM; and a 32-bit processor for fast processing of receipts with graphics, complex bar codes and fonts using advanced and secure wireless communication. Charging options include an AC charger, Quad charger and cigarette-lighter adapter charger for in-vehicle charging.

Available now in the US and Canada, the RW 220 will be available in Europe and Latin America next month and in key markets in Asia Pacific by mid-year.
