Original Press Release:

All-Inclusive Kit for Checking Performance and Accuracy in HVAC Applications

ATLANTA, Jan. 29, 2008 - Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. today announced the release of an all-inclusive mobile check metering kit that verifies the performance and accuracy of all brands and types of energy meters used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning applications to reduce costs and increase energy efficiency.

The mobile check metering kit contains the clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter Sitrans FUE1010 along with transducers, 1000 Ohm platinum resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) and cables required for measurement of district energy cooling and chilled water applications as well as power plants. The check metering kit includes a four-hour battery, enabling users to easily measure flow through air handlers and fan coil units without the inconvenience of a power cord.

Since the check metering kit can measure two flows simultaneously and also provides a kW input via a 4-20mA from electrical chillers, it can be used for chiller efficiency analysis to detect inefficient or underperforming systems. Its ability to measure the evaporator and condenser flows along with supply and return temperature and kW enables superior chiller performance analysis. Output variables include kW/ton, COP (Coefficient of Performance) and EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio).

The mobile check metering kit also measures homogenous as well as aerated flows. Air in chilled water and water/glycol mixtures affects energy efficiency, so the diagnostic capabilities of the check metering kit enables chiller operators to identify the issues required to solve aeration problems.

The check metering kit's portability facilitates use in balancing flows throughout buildings, campuses, hospitals, skyscrapers etc. By better distributing the chilled and hot water within a building, occupants are more comfortable while reducing chiller load. This alleviates the need to run additional chillers or over-sizing equipment when not necessary.
