NEC Announces Its Intelligent Converged Platform for Mobile Backhaul

Enables operators to continue to meet capacity demands, offer carrier-grade cloud services ---

Barcelona & Tokyo - NEC Corporation (NEC) announced today its "Intelligent Converged Platform" for mobile backhaul. It comprises the evolution of NEC's mobile backhaul solutions and services to plan, build and operate next-generation mobile broadband for mobile operators.

The move follows NEC's strategic vision for the network transformation of mobile backhaul to help operators meet the challenges of next-generation mobile broadband performance demands and cloud carrier services.

"Mobile backhaul is critical to the continued success of mobile broadband, yet today's networks do not offer the sustained level of management sophistication and operational efficiency that high-performance mobile broadband requires. Furthermore, in the new era of 'Cloud by Carrier', guaranteed carrier-grade service levels must be maintained in order to deliver next-generation IT services if operators are to remain competitive," said Hiroyasu Ishii, General Manager of Global Network Division, Global Carrier Solutions Operation Unit, NEC Corporation.

In order to meet the early deployment of LTE (Long Term Evolution) NEC will launch the first in a series of its Intelligent Converged Platform solutions later in 2010.

NEC's Intelligent Converged Platform is designed to meet the capacity, topology and intelligence requirements of next-generation mobile backhaul. It is the evolution of NEC's mobile backhaul portfolio and builds on NEC's global leadership in mobile backhaul.

Designed for Full Convergence - at the core of the platform is the Converged Packet Node, a modular network element that integrates a comprehensive set of transport and transmission features, resulting in reduced costs and long investment lifetime.

Designed for Self Management - with NEC's Intelligent Service Networking facility the
platform will deliver an integrated package of network management software tools for auto-provisioning and end-to-end service management for quick time-to-revenue and low
maintenance costs.

Designed for Network Sharing - new control plane technologies will allow multi-policy
network sharing, a foundation for NEC's Business Model Innovation where operators can increase revenues from existing infrastructure or reduce investment in new assets.

NEC's Intelligent Converged Platform will meet mobile backhaul migration challenges, while delivering low cost of ownership. It is supported by a strong suite of professional services and high-quality engineering. In addition, it is compatible with NEC's marketleading PASOLINK(TM) mobile backhaul portfolio.

NEC will attend the Mobile World Congress 2010, 15 February - 18 February, in Barcelona. For media briefings or further details of NEC's Intelligent Converged Platform, please come to NEC's exhibition area (Booth 8A125, Hall 8).
