LeCroy Introduces Mixed Signal Oscilloscopes for Embedded System Design and Debug

Chestnut Ridge, NY, August 5, 2009 - LeCroy Corporation today announced the launch of a new line of mixed signal oscilloscopes, the MSO Xs-A series. The new MSO offers 4 analog + 18 digital channels with 10 Mpts/ch memory on all 22 channels simultaneously. The MSO Xs-A is available in 400 MHz, 600 MHz and 1 GHz analog bandwidth with a maximum digital input frequency of 250 MHz. The processing power of the MSO Xs-A enables math, measurement and serial data decoding on even the longest capture times. In addition, the MSO Xs-A includes advanced triggering capabilities which easily isolate and trigger on runts, glitches or changes in slew rate. The Qualified AB event trigger permits arming the trigger on a specific event and triggering on a following event. The touch screen interface, unique in this class of instrument, is easy to use and simplifies setting up digital channel groupings and pattern triggers; eliminating the push buttons and scroll knobs required by other MSOs. Features such as WaveStream Fast Viewing Mode, WaveScan Search And Find, and serial data trigger and decode capabilities all combine to make the MSO Xs-A a powerful, flexible mixed signal oscilloscope.

The growing popularity of USB devices which incorporate flash-based storage media and operate using bus power has led developers to look for new ways to minimize the current draw for these devices. The USB 2.0 specification allows devices to draw a maximum of 100 mA. With the introduction of USB 3.0, this was increased to 150 mA but also added mandatory power management mechanisms. USB 3.0 developers will use these power management policies to extend laptop battery life and reduce power consumption during idle periods. Power Tracker allows developers to monitor and confirm current draw while their devices are following the defined policies.

Advanced Debug and Analysis Tools for Embedded Systems
Embedded systems have a wide range of analog, digital and serial data signals, all of which need to be viewed on a scope to ensure proper system timing and operation. The MSO Xs-A has a variety of tools to speed up and simplify the debugging process. Automated measurements can be used to analyze analog or digital channels while cursors can read out analog voltage and digital bus values simultaneously. The available I2C, SPI, UART, RS-232, CAN, LIN and Digital Audio serial decode options provide color-coded overlays of bus values, search capabilities and a tabular view of all bus traffic. These decodes can be used on digital lines to save the valuable analog channels for important analog sensor or power supply signals.

Extensive Probe Offering
All MSO Xs-A mixed signal oscilloscopes include high impedance, low capacitance passive probes and a digital leadset but the MSO Xs-A also supports a wide range of other probes for a variety of applications. High impedance active probes like the ZS1000 and ZS1500 offer probe bandwidths up to 1.5 GHz at an affordable price. Differential probes like the ADP300 and ADP305 provide an easy way to probe switching power supplies. High voltage passive probes up to 20 kV and current probes up to 500 A round out the line.
