Mix Heads offer integrated shot counter.

Press Release Summary:

Suited for polyurethane processing, mix heads include counter to help identify at what point (number of shots) mix-head performance is impaired by abrasion. Counter displays exact number of times the mix head cycles to allow users to map out trends and historical data, aiding in gauging preventive maintenance.

Linden Industries Introduces 'Shot Counters' to Mix Heads for Polyurethane Processing

Linden Industries, Inc., a Polyurethane equipment manufacturer, located in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio recently introduced to the Polyurethane market, a shot counter for all Linden manufactured mix heads.

The shot counter was developed as a solution to two industry problems. First, to provide molders with a method to identify when a mix head is due for preventive maintenance and secondly, to improve the warranties offered on mix heads.

Preventive Maintenance

For molders who are running highly abrasive fillers, wear of the mix head components is unavoidable. As components wear, ratios, pressure, equipment performance and product quality are all affected. The best method to avoid excessive downtime or runs of defective product, is to identify at what point (number of shots), a mix head's performance is impaired by abrasion. This can be determined based upon trends and historical data. Once identified, a preventive maintenance program to switch out the mix head prior to failure can be set in place.

Until now, there has not been a reliable method to measure the number of shots a particular mix head has delivered. This NEW Linden mix head technology incorporates a self-contained shot counter that displays the exact number of times the mix head cycles.

Improved Warranties

Historically, warranties for polyurethane mix heads are stated as a period of time and/or a number of shots, i.e. 6 months or 100,000 shots which ever occurs first.

Many times, mix heads are purchased as a back-up to an existing mix head.

The replacement mix head may be not be required until after the warranty has expired. A similar problem exists when a mix head is purchased with a new machine, which may not be in full production until after the warranty period has ended. For the mix head manufacturer, the difficulty comes in determining if a mix head returned after 5-1/2 months has more than 100,000 shots?

The shot counter eliminates the issue of time and enables Linden to offer warranties related strictly to usage. Based upon this new technology, Linden is currently reevaluating their mix head warranties. As mix heads with shot counters are returned for service, Linden tracks usage and wear.

Processors have reported high performance from Linden mix heads, such as Ray Taylor of East Pattern & Model Corporation, "The head has close to a million shots and still running like a champ. We love it!". Shot counter technology provides Linden measurable data to support the claims of their customers, provides reliable feedback for on-going mix head research and may allow extended warranties based upon actual performance.
