Miura LX-300 Zero-Side-Clearance on-Demand Steam Solutions Achieve High-Efficiency 9ppm Low-NOx - and Low Co2 - Performance

Innovative Low-Temperature Burner Design Meets the Most Stringent NOx Emissions Rules While Also Achieving High-Efficiency, Energy-Saving Performance in a Small Footprint

ATLANTA, GEORGIA, August 2, 2011 - Miura, the leader in energy-efficient industrial steam boilers, announces the achievement of 9ppm ultra-low NOx emissions performance for its new zero-side-clearance LX-300 on-demand steam generator. This new innovation - an industry milestone - also brings Miura's entire line of LX boilers into the Ultra-Low NOx emissions performance category. Newest among these boilers is the UL-approved zero-side-clearance-design LX-300, which provides more boiler-output capacity per square foot than any other boiler on the market today. Miura boilers feature a small footprint and save an average of 20 percent in annual fuel costs over other boiler designs. The on-demand performance of Miura's modular boilers makes a multiple installation of LX-300's particularly well suited for larger-scale facilities and district-energy plants seeking superior thermal energy management customized for their specific demand profile. Miura's new benchmark of ultra-low 9ppm NOx emissions performance for the LX-300 also now provides these larger-scale facilities and district-energy plants with a major advantage in complying with NOx emissions rules, especially in regions where regulations are the most severe.

"Miura's achievement of ultra-low 9ppm NOx emissions performance further adds to the unparalleled advantages of its line of boilers," notes Hiroshi Fukushima, President of Miura North America Inc. "Miura's unique optimization of boiler efficiency combined with its leadership in emissions compliance provides a total performance solution in NOx compliance that does not rely on problematic add-on components such as Selective Catalytic Reduction or Flue-Gas Recirculation that really don't contribute to improved boiler efficiency. Plus, the zero-side-clearance design of Miura's new LX-300 delivers the industry's largest steam capacity per square foot of boiler-plant footprint."

Necessity and Invention

Globally, the world's largest industrial boiler manufacturer, Miura was founded in Japan more than 50 years ago amid high energy costs and stringent environmental regulations. Developed over the years in response to these dual challenges, Miura boilers today employ a unique "once-through" fin-tube design that uses less fuel and produces fewer emissions than conventional boilers. These reduced emissions provide lower levels of nitrogen oxides (NOx), a major contributor to air pollution, as well as carbon dioxide (CO2), the most prevalent of greenhouse gases. Miura boilers accomplish this by reducing the temperature of the boiler's flame (the Ultra-Low NOx burner), which in turn reduces the amount of excited nitrogen atoms available to bond with oxygen to form nitrogen oxides. As a result of this, NOx emissions are reduced to approximately one-quarter of what traditional fire-tube boilers emit.

On-Demand Steam and Computer Control

Miura's exclusive technology produces BHP outputs comparable to much larger units. In addition to reducing emissions and saving fuel and water, Miura's "once-through" fin-tube design also enables Miura boilers to go from a cold start to full steam in just five minutes (or less). This on-demand steam-generation capability is well-suited to modular installations in which multiple Miura boilers can be sequentially turned on or off as needed to match load fluctuations and thus provide enhanced energy management via precise "load-matching" capability, as opposed to consuming energy while idling in stand-by mode.

Miura's use of advanced computer-control technology ensures optimum boiler efficiency by constantly monitoring multiple boiler components to maintain peak performance. These diagnostics interface with Miura's ER Monitoring system, an "energy dashboard" that provides 24/7 status and optimization of boiler operation. In addition to feeding a graphical display on the boilers themselves, the Miura ER Monitoring system also provides Internet connectivity so that full boiler status - including all data, alarms, and trouble-shooting information - can be viewed online remotely via PC or a IP-connected mobile device such as a PDA, smart-phone, or a tablet computer.

The Miura ER Monitoring system also enables operators to access month-by-month operational data (gas/water usage, emissions), which is handy when submitting the data for local permits, The new boilers are more efficient and much cleaner than fire-tube boilers, making permitting paperwork easier.

A Complete Steam-Solutions Provider

Additional efficiencies of up to 87 percent can be obtained by Miura's built-in energy recovery and proprietary water-treatment systems. A complete steam-solutions provider, Miura also offers integrated intelligent water-softener monitoring technology and the exclusive BOILERMATE chemical-treatment system. BOILERMATE's chemical composition includes silicate, a naturally occurring corrosion inhibitor that prevents scale from building inside of boilers. Miura's BOILERMATE chemicals are custom-fitted to each boiler.

Miura North America works with its clients to not only to deploy technology, but also to be proactive as a "BEST PARTNER" energy-management advocate/consultant that helps customers find ways to implement projects through energy-efficiency rebates, incentives, financing opportunities, and other potential options.

Miura's innovative new LX-300 zero-side-clearance on-demand steam generator with 9ppm ultra-low NOx emissions performance is available now and is made in the U.S.A. at Miura Manufacturing America, in Rockmart GA.
