Mitsubishi Electric Selects Lantronix Award-Winning M2M Networking Technology for its DLP Projector Products

XPort Provides Remote Management and Monitoring Capabilities Enabling Real-Time Business Intelligence

IRVINE, Calif., May 22, 2006 - Lantronix, Inc. (Nasdaq: LTRX) a leader in device networking and data center management technologies, today announced that Mitsubishi Electric, a leading manufacturer of theater and data projector products, has selected the award-winning Lantronix XPort® embedded networking module to provide remote management and monitoring capabilities for its DLP projectors. Enabling serial-based devices to communicate over a Local Area Network/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN) or the Internet, machine-to-machine communications (M2M), made possible by Lantronix XPort device networking technology, allows maintenance personnel to access, monitor and control equipment and its performance from any location at any time adding an unprecedented level of real-time business intelligence.

By combining Mitsubishi's ProjectorView(TM) Control System software with the XPort built-in web server, a remote user is able to proactively monitor each projector's performance including its lamp and internal temperature, how long the lamp has been running, last maintenance and installation data in real-time via a simple PC browser. Mitsubishi maintenance personnel now can remotely operate fundamental functions of each projector over the Internet. Mitsubishi selected Lantronix XPort for three of its projectors, including their XGA DLP(TM) Projectors in the U.S. and two other models sold for the Japanese market.

Within minutes, maintenance can easily diagnosis the status of each projector, and if there is a problem, an email notification can be sent directly to the maintenance department instantly alerting them of the situation, such as projector overheating, lamp life expiration or command errors. If a service call is needed, they can equip the truck with the appropriate tools to fix the problem before leaving the service center. This greatly reduces the amount of on-site visits, cuts service and repair costs and can provide better overall customer service.

"Lantronix XPort has provided our customers an integrated solution that allows them to quickly and easily build network connectivity into their end solutions while reducing engineering risks and costs associated with adding network capabilities to their products," said Marc Nussbaum, CEO of Lantronix. "Our partnership with Mitsubishi is another validation of Lantronix solutions and the number of benefits a company can realize by utilizing machine-to-machine communications. We are very pleased to work with Mitsubishi and look forward to helping them leverage the power of M2M device networking technology to deliver better quality, more cost-effective business solutions."

Lantronix XPort is the industry's most compact, integrated embedded device server and network processing module that provides manufacturers the ability to easily design Ethernet or IP networking capabilities to devices with a serial interface. In a package slightly bigger than an RJ45 jack, XPort incorporates all the essential hardware and software in a single solution and optionally provides AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption for secure standard communications. XPort allows OEMs to securely and cost-effectively embed networking capabilities into a wide variety of products, instantly increasing product value, enhancing the end-user experience and facilitating new service delivery options.
