Mitel to Unveil Latest Enhancements to Its Unified Communications Portfolio at VoiceCon Spring 2007

Rich telephony, presence, and collaboration capabilities tightly integrated for unifying communications that improve productivity and business efficiency

OTTAWA, Feb. 27 -- Mitel® (VoiceCon Booths # 809 and 1106) will unveil the latest innovations in its portfolio of Unified Communications platforms, applications and devices at VoiceCon in Orlando, March 5 through 8. The portfolio now features embedded "presence-everywhere" capabilities that allow employees to be more effective in the way they communicate through their PCs, phones and mobile devices with colleagues in their organization, or as part of a federated group of external partners like suppliers or customers.

Mitel's innovation moves rich presence features beyond the desk-bound, PC-centric environment of knowledge workers to allow all employees to know when and how to best contact others. The resulting communications efficiency leads to enhanced productivity, reduced costs, increased customer loyalty and new revenue potential.

"Our presence-everywhere capabilities dramatically enhance the value of IP communications," said Doug Michaelides, Mitel's vice-president of global marketing. "Mitel is helping customers achieve the promise of Unified Communications with our 'presence-enabled' applications and a desktop portfolio that allows organizations to seamlessly unify their communications thereby improving their ROI on existing IT infrastructure. Moreover, our solutions architecture means customers have the comfort of knowing that their investment decisions allow them to migrate to these new capabilities at their own pace."

Business Process Improvement - Your Way

The architecture of Mitel's forward-thinking solutions portfolio enables business process improvements, such as the ability to reduce costs, increase productivity and business optimization to be enhanced by unifying communications over time. It allows staff, partners and suppliers to maintain a virtual presence in the office even when working from home or on the road. As a leader in IP communications, Mitel unifies communications platforms, business-critical applications and devices while adapting to multiple corporate IT environments. Mitel's extensive range of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) facilitates the integration of voice and presence features into other business applications.

Integrating rich telephony applications including Mitel Mobile Extension, Mitel Quick Conference and Mitel NuPoint Messenger(TM) IP with the Microsoft® Office Live Communications Server 2005, the Mitel Live Business Gateway allows users to benefit from the presence information accessed through the Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 interface by providing access to key business resources in the moment that they are needed. The latest release of Live Business Gateway now provides support for centralized as well as distributed deployments, allowing organizations to concentrate key communications applications to provide greater survivability options and minimize costly server duplication.

Mitel Your Assistant(TM) Unified Communications desktop productivity tool provides both phone, person and computer presence for the knowledge worker and mobile worker. It provides secure Instant Messaging (IM), web collaboration, videoconferencing, knowledge management and drag and drop conferencing. Its fully featured soft phone allows road warriors and teleworkers to securely communicate and collaborate from any location with a high-speed Internet connection without the need for a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection.

Global Teams, Local Presence for Everyone

Mitel has also extended presence across its mobility and customer interaction solutions by presenting device, user, group status, and individual context within the scope of potentially all business applications. By combining user device status and individual context, the embedded rich presence of Mitel applications can visually show whether a handset is on or off hook, if a user is in a conference call, on a mobile phone, in his office or away, providing local presence to global teams.

Mitel's innovation continues by pushing presence beyond the table-stakes PC-centric knowledge worker environment by delivering presence display capabilities directly on phones and, continuing its tradition of tailoring its solutions for specific vertical markets, special tasks and environments.

Using intelligent directory functionality (Microsoft Outlook Exchange, Microsoft Active Directory), the interactive LCD screens on Mitel 5330 and 5340 IP Phones can now display corporate and personal directories as well as presence status. Search capabilities using the phone dial pad and soft keys display all the phone numbers for a particular contact to take the guesswork out of reaching people.

Presence display and IM are also introduced to the Mitel 5550 IP Console for improved call handling and a superior inbound caller experience. The attendant has visibility of the presence of the called party and can access them via IM.

The new Mitel 5560 IP Phone breaks new ground by offering a unique multitasking solution for environments that face heavy call volumes, such as command and control and trading environments. Integration of presence and teleworking enables efficient communications even in disaster recovery and business continuity scenarios.

Standards-based, Flexibility of Deployment and Ease of Management

VoiceCon is also the stage for the introduction of Release 8 of the Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP). The standards-based 3300 ICP is now available in a range of operating models that deliver increased scalability, higher performance and lower cost to meet the needs of end customers in centralized, distributed, or hybrid architectures. Running on an industry-standard Linux compute platform, the newly introduced Mitel Communications Director software offers the same call control features and functionality and application integration of other members of the 3300 ICP family and applications portfolio. It increases scale per controller to 5,000 users (65,000 users per Mitel cluster) and is ideally suited for enterprise data centers and hosted environments.

Over the coming months, Mitel will unveil several new advancements and innovations to its presence offerings that will simplify the adoption of Unified Communications in multiple environments. Based on open communications standards, the upcoming launches will feature business application integration for Unified Communications to leverage the real benefit of IP-based communications.
