The New Kontron Intelligent Minicomputer - KIM

Extremely Compact and Versatile Minicomputer, Scaleable up to Intel® Core(TM) 2 Duo

Eching, Germany, November 28, 2006 - Today at the SPS/IPIC/DRIVES exhibition, Kontron unveiled the Kontron Intelligent Minicomputer or KIM product family. This extremely compact, multifunctional minicomputer series is hightly scalable, offering processors from Intel® Celeron® M for cost sensitive applications, up to the latest Intel® Core(TM) 2 Duo T7400 with PCI Express for high end use.

The Kontron Intelligent Minicomputer series, which is based upon Kontron's mini-ITX embedded motherboard family, offers one free PCI slot for customer-specific expansion assemblies. With its compact dimensions (214 x 196 x 153 millimeters (W x D x H)), the KIM range satisfies customer demands for desktop performance in the smallest possible footprint and also satisfies the need for long term availability. Its toughness and versatility makes KIM the ideal choice for use in gaming applications and process control environments, in addition to medical, test and measurement applications.

The KIM is a modular design and all of its components can be flexible configured. The basic variants of the compact IPC are defined by the motherboard and processor used: customers can choose processors from Intel® Pentium® M Ultra Low Voltage BGA and Celeron® M up to Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo. Depending on the requirements of the application and the processor and chipset chosen, up to 2 Gigabyte DDR2 RAM can be implemented using low-cost standard desktop memory modules.

The on-board graphics controller can support up to two independent flat panels via dual channel LVDS and dual DVI ports. All the KIM variants have onboard support for 3D graphics, with chipsets from Intel® 815E right up to the next-generation Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950. Internal AGP or PEG ports are available to allow interfaces with ADD2 cards.

Aside from the chipset and processor, the KIM offers 6 x USB 2.0, 3 x Ethernet up to 10/100/1000 Mbit, 4 x COM, PS/2, LPT and one external VGA port as standard interfaces. An internal 3.5 inch drive bay allows for the installation of a SATA HDD. Shock-resistant Compact Flash can also be implemented as a storage device.

Standard KIM variants will be available direct from stock as of February 2007 and KIM systems customized to meet customers' precise requirements and delivered as complete, tested, and independently certified solutions will also be offered.
