Welch Allyn Introduces New Family of Miniature HPX(TM) Halogen Lamps

HPX Lamps Last Longer and Burn Whiter than Standard Incandescent Lamps

Skaneateles Falls, New York, March 26, 2002 - Welch Allyn, Inc. Lighting Products Division introduces a new family of miniature high-pressure xenon (HPX) halogen lamps that burn whiter and last three times longer than standard incandescent lamps. The HPX
lamps measure just 4 mm in diameter and are well suited for integration into precision spectral analysis instruments and miniature video inspection systems. They are also ideal as
indicator lights and for miniature fiber illumination.

Based on Welch Allyn's unique HPX technology, these lamps outperform standard incandescent lamps and maintain consistent output over the lifetime of the lamp. "The HPX lamps are the only 4-mm-diameter lamp that have an active halogen chemistry
regenerative cycle," said Doug Rutan, manager of original equipment marketing at Welch Allyn. "This cycle is exclusive to Welch Allyn and produces lamps that last longer and operate at a higher color temperature than standard incandescent lamps."

The HPX lamps are also a potential replacement for white LED's, which typically have an inconsistent spectral output. HPX lamps are smaller than conventional LED's and have the broadest spectral output of any competitive technology on the market today. "This is especially true in the analytical instrumentation market, where the lamp's broad spectral output is unrivaled. And since it's a halogen-based source, it cannot be beat with respect to its spectral characteristics," added Rutan.

Moreover, HPX lamps are extremely stable. This is a result of Welch Allyn's precision manufacturing processes, which enable the company to produce lamps that maintain consistent light output over time and from lamp to lamp.

The family of HPX halogen lamps consists of four different models all of which feature a
T1 1/4 (4 mm)-diameter bulb and 2.5 mm precision spot size. Available voltages range from 2.7V to 3.5V; wattage from 1.54W to 2.59W; color temperature from 3050K to 3270K. Three base types are available: wedge, center and two-pin.
