Aromat Debuts Family of Miniature, Lightweight Ballasts
High-Performance Products Ideal for Low Wattage Metal Halide Market
LIGHTFAIR 2003-Aromat Corporation debuted a family of products at the nation's largest conference on lighting, including miniaturized, lightweight electronic ballasts for the rapidly growing low wattage metal halide market.
The miniaturized ballasts are 50 percent smaller than the industry standard case and weigh between six to nine ounces, rather than pounds. These features make the ballasts ideal for smaller, more aesthetically pleasing luminaires, especially when space is at a premium.
The ballasts are available in Mini-Slim and Mini-Square configurations in 20- and 39-Watt M.H. Lamps. Mini-Slim dimensions are 5.51 in. wide, 1.74 in. high and 1.18 in. deep. Dimensions for Mini-Square are 3.744 in. wide, 2.976 in. high and 1.205 in. deep.
The ballasts feature resonance start technology for superior lamp starting and improved hot restrike performance. The units are easy to assemble with only one unit to mount.
The 20- and 39-Watt ballast and lamp combinations save 73 and 50 percent respectively, compared to the energy consumed by a 90-Watt HIR lamp. Aromat's exclusive Dual Constant Power technology enables lamps to maintain consistent lamp color despite input voltage and lamp voltage fluctuation.
Another member of the family is the Multi-Slim electronic ballast for 150-Watt lamps. It offers features ideally suited for recessed downlights, including a short, slim shape that makes it easy to mount on J-boxes, smaller size, multi-voltage input and thermal protection.
The ballast is 39 percent smaller than the industry standard case and weighs less than 2 lbs., rather than 8 lbs. of a magnetic ballast. It is an integrated unit that replaces the ballast, capacitor and igniter of magnetic core and coil systems, or heavy HID F-can magnetic ballasts. With Aromat's Dual Constant Power technology, it saves up to 15 percent of the energy consumed by a magnetic ballast.
The 150-Watt Multi-Slim comes in a multi-voltage (120- to 277- volt) input configuration and with two mounting options. Dimensions are 8.287 in. wide, 2.58 in. high and 2.17 in. deep.
New multi-voltage ballasts will be available in 39-, 70- and 100-wattages with the additional "insulation detector" "TAP" feature. This allows a more cost effective and standardized fixture design for 277-Volt power supply applications. All the ballasts offer superior reliability and safety with a special lamp turn-off function that resets by cycling line voltage off, then on. Other features are excellent line regulation, which allows only 0.5 percent output variation with 10 percent changes in line voltage. The ballasts reduce visual flicker, are "A" sound rated for indoor applications and are thermally and transient protected. Typical installations that benefit from Aromat ballasts include retail applications where color, ambience, efficiency and performance are essential.
