FANUC Robotics' LR Mate 200iB/5WP Waterproof Robot Demonstrates High-pressure Part Washing at IMTS 2004
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., Sept. 8, 2004 - FANUC Robotics' LR Mate 200iB/5WP robot is the company's latest addition to its popular LR Mate series of mini robots. The speed and ruggedness of the LR Mate 200iB/5WP waterproof robot will be showcased in a high-pressure part washing demonstration during IMTS 2004 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Sept. 8-15, in the Emerging Technology Center.
At the show, the LR Mate 200iB/5WP waterproof robot, equipped with a high-pressure nozzle will wash an engine head component. High-speed operation coupled with flexibility allows the robot to quickly access all areas of the part, even those that are typically hard to reach. The demonstration will also highlight the precise control of fluid flow, pressure and consumption to maximize throughput, quality and reduce operating costs. More cost-effective than traditional hard automation washing systems, the LR Mate 200iB/5WP is also ideal for sand blasting, cleaning, and other material removal applications.
LR Mate 200iB/5WP Series
In addition to the LR Mate 200iB/5WP waterproof robot for washing, spraying and CNC grinder tending, the series includes the LR Mate 200iB/5P for high-precision applications, the LR Mate 200iB/5WP for pharmaceutical/isolator processes, the LR Mate 200iB/5WP for the food industry, and the LR Mate 200iB/5C cleanroom robot.
The LR Mate 200iB series has a slimmer arm than previous versions, which has further enhanced its reach and minimized interference. Though the arm size is smaller, the six-axis robot has enhanced payload capabilities. Brakes on all axes provide enhanced motion control. The wrist moment capability has increased 33%, and maximum allowable payload has increased 67% (from 3kg to 5kg). A long-arm version, the LR Mate 200iB/3L, which has a 3kg payload, and an additional six inches of reach, is also available.
LR Mate 200iB/5WP Waterproof Robot
The LR Mate 200iB/5WP waterproof robot is the industry's first and only super protection robot designed for use in foundry, food packing, high-pressure washing or cleaning, and spraying applications. The body of the LR Mate 200iB/5WP has IP65 ratings and the wrist axes have IP67 ratings. It can withstand reflected water flow at a distance of four inches, at a maximum pressure of 2,900 PSI at four gallons per minute. The robot features high strength covers with Teflon gaskets for resistance of chemicals, washing or coolant fluids, and since it is not painted there is no risk of paint chips during an application.

The new LR Mate 200iB/5WP for pharmaceutical/isolator applications is equipped to withstand vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VHP), an anti-microbial pesticide registered by EPA to kill bacterial spores on environmental surfaces in an enclosed area. It is used in life-science applications such as isolators, workstations, and pass-through rooms.

The LR Mate 200iB series of robots are equipped with the standard R-J3iB Mate mini controller that includes a variety of options including single phase power input, auxiliary axis support, line tracking, I/O and PC communications, Ethernet, and FANUC's V-500iA vision sensor.
