VForce(TM) with Sidelok(TM) Boosts Productivity of New Milling Cutters

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich., May 6, 2008 - Valenite LLC has just unveiled its latest high-performance, milling cutter technology, VForce(TM) with SideLok(TM), a patent pending, direct-insert clamping design ideal for high insert density machining that increases metal removal rates, provides for quicker indexing and reduces spare parts inventory. Versatile with diameters from 3" to 10", VForce with SideLok provides more cutting teeth per revolution, and increases feed and material-removal rates of up to three times faster than tools with traditional insert-clamping systems. In addition, by incorporating three of Valenite's new carbide grades and three newly expanded top-form geometries, the machining applications for VForce include a wide range of materials and are especially adept with cast iron. VForce with SideLok is the latest addition to the company's growing list of innovations resulting from an ongoing program to strengthen and update its product offerings.

The SideLok technology utilizes a single screw with no extraneous parts required, allows for quick release of the insert to minimize insert indexing time, is easier to use than screw-down or wedge-type systems and permits the use of a stronger, solid insert design. VForce features a hexagonal shape providing up to 12 distinct cutting edges.

Uniquely designed, the insert cavity and locking screw are precision aligned and angled relative to each other in order to apply force in two directions as the screw is tightened. The insert is both pushed against the pocket-side walls and pulled down securely to the pocket bottom. The resulting wedge-like condition not only retains the insert, but by applying constant lateral resistance on the threads, also prevents the lock screw from loosening.

Sizes for VForce with SideLok range from 3" through 10" diameters. Cutters with metric mountings are also available, as well as special tools designed for a specific application. Inserts include three ValProTM carbide grades, a ceramic material insert, with geometries for roughing operations and finish-milling applications.
