Middleware supports super cluster-based architectures.

Press Release Summary:

High-availability middleware framework, Element(TM) v2.3, lets applications in one cluster communicate seamlessly with applications in another cluster via LINX(TM) high-performance interprocess communications protocol. Mixed-endian abstraction layer handles data marshalling between disparate architectures, and Enea Element Name Server supports additional hierarchy in address space. Commercial integration of ConfD network management solution supports distributed network management needs.

Element Version 2.3 Supports 'Super Cluster' Based Network Architectures

STOCKHOLM, Sweden and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 16 - ATCA Summit - Enea (Nordic Exchange/Small Cap/ENEA), a world leading provider of network software and services, today announced version 2.3 of their Element(TM) high availability middleware framework with integrated support for super-cluster-based network architectures.

Modern communication systems are often characterized by distributed computing environments linked together to form complex computing clusters. Increasingly, network operators are finding it necessary to link together clusters of clusters, or super clusters, in order to deliver the highly available converged services that consumers demand. The inherent mix of different microprocessor architectures, real-time operating systems and hardware architectures poses a significant challenge for both telecommunication equipment providers and application developers alike.

"Version 2.3 of Element is the first commercial, high availability middleware framework to include support for super-cluster-based network systems," said Terry Pearson, vice president, Element product management at Enea. "Element now allows applications in one cluster to communicate with applications in another cluster seamlessly via ENEA's high performance Interprocess Communications Protocol, LINX (TM)."

A specialized mixed-endian abstraction layer automatically handles data marshalling between disparate architectures, alleviating the need for application programmers to be aware of architectural differences. The Enea Element Name Server has also been enhanced to support additional hierarchy in the address space. This allows designers to manage the scope of name publications and subscriptions, which results in higher performance and greater scalability of applications.

To support the increased needs of distributed network management, the 2.3 release of Element delivers the industry's first commercial integration of the ConfD network management solution from Tail-f Systems. The resulting integration offers customers a powerful tool set to rapidly build carrier-grade network management systems which supports CLI, Web, SNMP and NETCONF interfaces and addresses the configuration and monitoring needs of distributed, cluster based systems.

The Element 2.3 release also includes support for Wind River's carrier grade Linux operating system and Workbench tool chain, including cross-compilation for a variety of target architectures.
