Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0 Gets a 200% Boost with Datalight Software

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 7 / / -- (Flash Memory Summit) Datalight, Inc. today announced support for the Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0 platform within its patented data management software. Datalight Reliance(TM) and FlashFX(R) Pro can double performance on Windows Embedded CE 6.0 when implemented together.

As embedded device memory requirements grow more complex, the case for professional data management software becomes more compelling. Datalight FlashFX Pro is a flash media manager that offers drop-in support for over 200 different flash parts. Reliance is a file system that gives developers control over performance without risking data corruption. When used together, Reliance and FlashFX Pro create a seamless flash file system that vastly outperforms native and "home grown" solutions, with performance increases for some operations of over 200%.

FlashFX Pro is ideally suited for projects where performance cannot be sacrificed. Test results have shown that when using FlashFX Pro in a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 environment, write performance on NAND flash can be increased by more than 200%, while read performance improves by at least 20%.

"As a valued Windows Embedded Gold Partner, we are pleased to have Datalight's support for Windows Embedded CE 6.0," said Ilya Bukshteyn, director of Windows Embedded Marketing at Microsoft Corp. "Datalight technology with Windows Embedded CE 6.0 will give our customers a new level of performance and reliability."

"With CE 6.0, Windows Embedded has reached new milestones in ease-of-use and scalability," said Ken Whitaker, Datalight director of engineering. "We are pleased to bring the increased sophistication in flash memory support and performance of our software to this platform."

In addition to performance, OEMs using FlashFX Pro also gain the ability to use NOR, NAND, NAND controllers, and hybrid flash parts within a single driver. This flexibility ensures that OEMs can confidently second-source flash parts without having to halt production to redevelop or retune flash drivers.

Reliance utilizes Dynamic Transaction Point(TM) technology to give developers control over performance. Given the complexity of embedded devices, the behavior of the device in the field is impossible to predict. Current file system methods waste resources like memory and disk space, and can lose critical data due to power loss. With Dynamic Transaction Point technology, the file storage methods are optimized at run-time according to the complexity of the operation. Reliance developers define triggers for file system behavior, essentially creating a self-adjusting system.

Reliance and FlashFX Pro are available from Datalight and its network of resellers worldwide. Development kits for Windows Embedded CE 6.0 will be available this month.
