Microfluidics' M-110P Microfluidizer® Processor Delivers Bench-top Convenience and Unprecedented Results around the Globe

Microfluidics has shipped over 50 M-110P units since February 2008

Newton, MA, November 3, 2008 - The introduction of the Microfluidics M-110P Microfluidizer® high shear fluid processor has been an unqualified success, according to Microfluidics' Product Manager, Dave Gucwa. "This unique bench-top lab machine has been accepted and embraced by the global marketplace," Gucwa noted. Over 50 M-110P machines have been shipped in the nine months since February 2008. The M-110P has made an extraordinary global impact, with 50% of sales in the Americas, 30% of sales in the Asian market, and 20% in the European market. M-110P customers span multiple industries including biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetics/ personal care and food.

Gencia Biotechnology, an early stage biotech company with a focus on mitochondrial medicine, is currently utilizing the M-110P. "Our work with therapeutic recombinant proteins necessitated the acquisition of a cell lysis apparatus to further develop our production protocols," said Francisco Portell, VP of Business Development for Gencia Biotechnology. "The M-110P has allowed us to meet our need for quick, efficient and consistent cell lysis, and it affords us the ease of use and scalability that are crucial to product development. We have been so pleased with the performance of the M-110P that we have recommended the machine to several of our colleagues."

Gucwa added, "The M-110P is a great fit for companies looking for innovative, convenient and functional processing equipment that allows them to rapidly achieve unique results." The M-110P requires no compressed air or cooling water for hydraulics. Designed to operate reliably, quietly and efficiently at up to 30,000 psi process pressure, the portable M-110P requires only a standard electrical outlet and can easily be incorporated into any laboratory setting.

Utilizing Microfluidics' fixed geometry diamond interaction chamber technology and ceramic plunger, the M-110P easily enables the production of nanosuspensions and nanoemulsions, as well as liposomal encapsulation and cell disruption with the fewest number of passes. The M-110P produces flow rates between 110-155 ml/minute (depending on process pressure), which is a higher flow rate than any comparable competitive product. This flow rate enables the efficient processing of pharmaceutical formulations, fine chemicals, and biological material ranging from simple oil-in-water emulsions to highly immiscible solids-in-liquid suspensions. All results from the M-110P machine are guaranteed to be scalable to pilot and/or production volumes.

The M-110P further expands Microfluidics' line of laboratory-scale processors, which is the broadest in the industry. Driven by electricity or pneumatically, the processors are used for many different applications including cell disruption, nanoemulsions, nanodispersions, nano/microencapsulation and liposomes. Microfluidics also offers numerous pilot scale and production scale processors, and scaleup from lab to production is guaranteed.
