Kaivac Develops New Microfiber Cleaning System



Key Component to a « Whole School » Cleaning System

Hamilton, OH - Kaivac, Inc., developer of the No-Touch Cleaning® system, has collaborated with local school districts to developed a new "trolley" microfiber cleaning system that can be used in schools as well as in many other types of facilities.

This new technology, known as the KaiMotion(TM) Flex system, combines several new components including:

  • A trolley framework allowing the unit to be moved to any area as needed

  • A self-dispensing solution reservoir for floor mopping and waxing

  • A splash-guard system that prevents spills and splashes on floors, walls, and furniture

  • An attachable/removable bin system allowing workers to store and transport color-coded microfiber pads and other cleaning tools and supplies

  • An ergonomic, worker-friendly design

    "This was a step-by-step process," says Paul South, General Manager of Valley Supply in Hamilton, Ohio, who was also involved with the project. "We listened to the concerns of the [custodial] managers with the goal of developing a 'whole school' cleaning system that could be used virtually anywhere in a school or any other facility for that matter."

    South adds they made several design and engineering changes in the process.

    For instance, the original system included only two bins, anchored to the trolley. The custodial managers thought these were not enough and that the design limited flexibility. "So the final system developed by Kaivac allows up to five bins to be added or removed, and [we] put attachable casters on them," says South.

    The design team was also aware of recent studies that indicate conventional mopping systems can spread contaminants on floor surfaces instead of removing them.

    To help prevent this, the new system's tanks release measured amounts of cleaning solution or finish directly onto floors. The microfiber pad is never inserted into the solution tank, minimizing contamination.

    "The managers report the system allows one cleaning worker to tackle many cleaning duties," says South, "which also helps improve [worker] productivity and lower cleaning costs."
