Microcontroller features 4 high-drive outputs.

Press Release Summary:

Operating on 32 kHz crystal oscillator, RISC microcontroller, Model EM6607 features equivalent of 4 Kb ROM and is available in 24- and 28-pin TSSOP and SO packages in addition to die form. Outputs can drive up to 30 mA at 3.0 V with 500 mV dropout voltage, making it suited for driving stepping motors, LEDs, TRIACs, and external EEPROM. Unit operates from single 1.2-3.6 V power supply with 1.8 µA power consumption in active mode and 0.3 µA in stand-by.

Ultra Low-Power 1.2v Microcontroller with High-Drive Outputs Saves Space and Extends Battery Life

Four high-drive outputs and the use of 32kHz crystal eliminates external components, delivers smaller and more cost-effective solution

Colorado Springs, Colo. - August 24, 2004 - EM Microelectronic, an electronic systems company of the Swatch Group, introduces the EM6607, a low-voltage, low-power RISC microcontroller that features four high-current I/Os and the equivalent of 4kB ROM, and operates on a 32kHz crystal. The product is available in 24- and 28-pin TSSOP and SO and in die form to facilitate ultra-high density system packaging.

The EM6607's outputs can drive up to 30mA at 3.0V with 500mV dropout voltage, making it the perfect choice for driving stepping motors, LEDs, TRIACs, external EEPROM and busses. It can also serve as a sophisticated power supply for other devices in the system. The EM6607 operates from a single 1.2V to 3.6V power supply. Power consumption is a mere 1.8uA in active mode and 0.3uA in stand-by mode, when operating at 32kHz and a supply of 1.5V.

"The EM6607 has a 32kHz crystal external oscillator for the system designer who needs high-accuracy," explains Mougahed Darwish, president of the management board of EM Microelectronic. "Instead of using a conventional crystal, one can also connect a TCXO such as the EM7602 on the external clock pin of the EM6607 in order to obtain a -0.012ppm/°C2 highly accurate, temperature compensated system."

The EM6607 integrates a unique combination of features into a versatile, low-power device that eliminates external components. Sophisticated portable consumer and battery-operated industrial products can be built using as few as one or two components in a smaller package. Using the EM6607 reduces the overall cost of the system, making it an ideal choice for cost-sensitive applications requiring high driving capabilities and compactness.

The EM6607 can be used in systems requiring sensor interfaces, RF or IR control, motor driving or a general form of timekeeping. Applications of the EM6607 include security systems, domestic appliances, remote controls, bicycle computers, industrial timers and watches and clocks. These applications can also leverage the EM6607's I/O capability to provide extended functions such as LED displays, piezo buzzers, stepper motor control and melody/sound.

The EM6607 executes 72 basic instructions and its data size is 4-bit wide. Other features include 4 inputs, 16 outputs (up to 4 high current), 2048 x 16 mask ROM, 96 x 4 bit RAM, reset outputs, two 8-bit timers, two 4-bit BCD counters, a 3-bit event counter, a prescaler with 1 Hz resolution, a serial port, 12 interrupts, a watchdog timer and three software-programmable voltage level detectors.

The EM6607 is available now in production quantities.
