Microcatheter System minimizes risks of kinking.

Press Release Summary:

Combining Progreat microcatheter with 0.021 in. Glidewire GT wire, Progreat(TM) Coaxial Microcatheter System is available in 110 or 130 cm length, each rated at 750 or 900 psi. Hydrophilic coating on wire minimizes friction and facilitates navigation through difficult vasculature. Tip is angled at 45° for majority of procedures, but can be reshaped for unique cases. Near frictionless PTFE inner layer of microcatheter ensures smooth delivery of embolics, coils, and other agents.

Terumo Interventional Systems Unveils New Progreat Coaxial Microcatheter System

SOMERSET, N.J., Feb. 22 / -- Two great tools engineered to work together in unparalleled performance for efficient access -- that's the philosophy reflected in the latest innovation unveiled by Terumo Interventional Systems.

Terumo Interventional Systems, a business unit of Terumo Medical Corporation, has launched its Progreat(TM) Coaxial Microcatheter System. This new coaxial system combines Terumo's trusted Progreat microcatheter with a Glidewire GT -- considered by many to be the gold standard in wires used to access difficult lesions. The Progreat Coaxial Microcatheter System is designed to increase procedural efficiency and reduce the risks of procedural problems, such as kinking.

"The Progreat Coaxial Microcatheter System is the perfect marriage of quality and efficiency," said Jim Rushworth, General Manager and Vice President of Terumo Interventional Systems. "By combining these two products, we can eliminate procedural steps, enhance physician convenience and potentially reduce your 'skin to skin' time -- ultimately leading to a more efficient procedure."

The Progreat Coaxial Microcatheter System includes a 0.021" Glidewire GT and incorporates an attached hub, which allows the wire to be preassembled and fixed via a lure-lock assembly onto a Terumo Progreat microcatheter. The combination allows the guidewire and microcatheter to be flushed simultaneously while still in the packaged hoop and it enhances the clinician's ability to negotiate the vasculature and to reach the targeted vessel.

o Terumo's Glidewire GT has a highly elastic nitinol alloy core -- a mixture of titanium and nickel -- that resists kinking while providing the flexibility and durability to navigate difficult vessel anatomy. The wire features Terumo's proprietary "Glide Technology" -- a hydrophilic coating which reduces friction and enhances navigation through difficult vasculature.

o The Glidewire GT has a 45-degree angled tip that is well suited for the majority of procedures, yet is reshapeable for the unique and challenging cases. It provides proximal support and distal flexibility for negotiating particularly tortuous anatomy. The tip is highlighted by a 30MM gold coil to maximize visibility during procedures.

o Terumo's Progreat microcatheter features a nearly frictionless polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) inner layer to ensure smooth delivery of embolics, coils and other agents, and is encased in a tungsten coil that delivers kink resistance, provides for superior trackability, and acts as a radiopaque middle layer to maximize visibility. The distal portion (50cm for the 110cm length and 70cm for the 130cm length) of the microcatheter is partially coated utilizing Terumo's "Glide Technology," which allows for unparalleled maneuverability.

Progreat has found a role in the treatment of certain tumors because of its ability to withstand high-pressure injections of embolics and other therapeutic agents. The Progreat Coaxial Microcatheter System is available in 110cm catheter length (750psi or 900psi) and 130cm catheter length (750psi or 900psi). Each Progreat Coaxial Microcatheter System comes complete with a Glidewire GT .021" guidewire, a wire stopper for adjusting the protruding length of the guidewire, a guidewire introducer, a rotating hemostatic valve, a 2.5mL syringe, and a tip shaping mandrel.

All Progreat microcatheter products, as well as Bead Block(TM) compressible microspheres and Glidewire GT guidewires, can be ordered directly from Terumo by calling (800) 888-3786. Beginning April 1, 2006, all Glidewire(R) guidewires, Glidecath(R) catheters and Pinnacle(R) sheaths, which are currently sold through Boston Scientific, will be available in the United States and Latin America exclusively through Terumo Medical Corporation.
