Microanalysis System provides material characterization.

Press Release Summary:

PEGASUS determines relationships between physical properties, morphology, chemistry, and crystallography. System simultaneously collects EDS (chemistry) and EBSD (crystallography) data and establishes direct correlation between elemental content and microstructural aspects of studied material. ChI-Scan chemical indexing process uses EDS data to enhance actual phase differentiation and indexing of EBSD data in OIM.

EDAX Releases Improved and Enhanced Version of Pegasus -- The Complete Material Characterization System

Mahwah, NJ - EDAX Inc., a leader in X-ray microanalysis, X-ray fluorescence and electron diffraction instrumentation, has introduced the next generation of its PEGASUS integrated EDS and EBSD Microanalysis system.

"Introduced at M&M 2002 in Quebec City, the new PEGASUS system includes many new features and enhancements," explains Del Redfern, Microanalysis Product Manager for EDAX.

"The new features enable the relationships between physical properties, morphology, chemistry and crystallography to be determined easily and accurately. We are now able to completely satisfy scientists' needs to fully understand a material, whether they are geologists looking at rocks or material scientists working on new semi-conductor devices," notes Redfern.

"The main impetus behind the first PEGASUS system was to make simultaneous collection of EDS (chemistry) and EBSD (crystallography) data a reality and establish a direct correlation between the elemental content and microstructural aspects of the material being studied," adds Redfern.

"Among the most exciting features of the new PEGASUS system is ChI-Scan chemical indexing. The ChI-Scan process uses EDS data to enhance the actual phase differentiation and indexing of the EBSD data in OIM. Using ChI-Scan, we have seen dramatic increases in both indexing speed and accuracy, especially on difficult, multi-phase samples. This will change the way people collect and analyze EBSD data," comments Redfern.
