Micrel Breaks Through Technology Barriers with Europe's Hottest IC Trends: Wireless, Mobile and Ethernet at Electronica 2006

MUNICH, Germany, November 14 // -- Micrel Inc. (Nasdaq: MCRL), an industry leader in analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions announced today that it would be showcasing the hottest IC trends for Europe with breakthrough technology demos at the Electronica 2006. The firm's innovative new ICs are designed for leading-edge wireless, mobile, lighting and Ethernet applications and include a sneak peek at the Industry's thinnest inductorless 8 MHz buck regulator.

Micrel will be exhibiting at booth No. 464, located in Hall A4, at the Munich Trade Center.

Mobile

Mobile phones are becoming thinner and more compact while power and performance expectations continue to escalate with discerning consumers and, accordingly, manufacturers. Micrel addresses both of these trends with the MIC3385. The device is the industry's thinnest inductorless buck regulator and is rated for up to 500 mA and comes in a tiny 3mm x 3.5mm x 0.9mm MLF(R) package, ideal for today's most demanding mobile device designs. Nowhere else can this combination of performance and size, in a completely inductorless 8MHz high efficiency buck switching regulator, be found.

LED Lighting

Today's high current LEDs are rapidly replacing conventional solutions in everything from portable devices, to the home, industrial, and vehicles.
These new LEDs offer higher reliability, better color control and extended lifetime, as well as considerably better luminous efficiency. All of this translates into a vibrant and more visually appealing interface for the customer, a trend that consumers in particular are embracing across all applications. Micrel will be showing an efficient, versatile driver, the
MIC2196 high performance boost controller IC, in conjunction with Osram Ostar LED arrays. This driver has been developed in co-operation with Sasco Holz.

Wireless

Over the past few years, wireless technology has taken the world by storm not only in consumer devices but in automotive and many industrial applications such as automatic meter reading, building automation and industrial control. However, designers have long wrestled with the trade off of transmission range versus battery life. They need do so no longer - Micrel meets the demand for wireless head on with a demonstration of the Company's MICRF405, the latest in Micrel's family of low-power RadioWire(R) radio solutions. The compact, low-cost device conveniently covers all geographic regions and typically consumes fully 30 percent less battery power at the same transmission range as existing solutions. This solution enables designers of all types of products to dramatically increase battery life in their applications without compromising link performance.

Ethernet

Recently, the industry has fairly exploded with Ethernet technology and
solutions including IP-set-top boxes, IP-TVs and Industrial Ethernet. Micrel
is no newcomer to the rapidly changing landscape that defines Ethernet, as
evidenced by its recent introduction of the KSZ8041NL. The solution
represents the Company's sixth generation product offering and is part of the
highly successful KS8721 line of Fast Ethernet PHYs. It is a low cost PHY
that comes in a small 5mm x 5mm QFN package. In addition, at 6KV ESD, the
chip supports the industry's most stringent ESD ratings for a Fast Ethernet
transceiver at 6KV and boasts of the industry's lowest power consumption,
< 180mW.

"Micrel continues to expand its presence in Europe, particularly as one
of the Company's world class centers for design innovation," noted David
Brown, managing director, Micrel Europe. "Electronica provides an ideal forum
for showcasing the Company's latest innovative products as we continue to
break through technology barriers and provide Europe's most innovative IC
solutions, particularly for the Wireless and Wired Communications, Automotive
and Industrial Markets."

Micrel maintains localized sales and support offices in Newbury, United
Kingdom; Villebon, France and Stockholm, Sweden. The Company's European
