Peritek's New 'All-in-One' Mezzanine Card Introduces Multi-Media to the PMC Market

PMC Card Combines Audio and Video I/O, 128-Bit Graphics, and a USB 2.0 Host Controller to Support Embedded RTOS, Solaris, Windows, and Linux Systems

June 6, 2004, OAKLAND, Calif. ---- Peritek, a Curtiss-Wright company (NYSE: CW; CW.B), and a leading provider of graphics boards for embedded systems, has launched a new category of "multi-media" PMC card with the introduction of its new Sirena/PMC module. The Sirena/PMC provides audio I/O, video capture/display, graphic display up to 1900x1200 and a USB 2.0 controller all on a standard PMC card.

Designed for the extended life-cycle demanded by embedded system designs, the new card features Peritek's 128-bit Borealis graphics processor and supports 2D, 3D, OpenGL, and DirectX-compatible displays in Solaris, Linux, Windows, LynxOS, and VxWorks environments.

"The Sirena/PMC is an ideal solution for capturing and displaying audio and video from standard off-the-shelf USB 2.0 peripherals including digital video cameras," said Victor Gold, Vice President of Graphics Technology. "It quickly adds multimedia functionality to any computer that has a single available PMC slot."

"Obsolescence Beater" Graphics Controller
Sirena/PMC's Borealis graphics accelerator supports screen resolutions up to 1920x1200 with up to 16.7 million colors (32 bpp). Manufactured exclusively for Peritek, the Borealis is immune to PC graphics chip market life cycles. The Sirena/PMC is supported with 16 Mbytes (32 MB optional) of high speed SGRAM display memory which provides ample local storage for image and off-screen data such as texture maps, Z-buffer, and backing store.

Software support for the Borealis includes highly optimized drivers for Solaris, Linux, and Windows that deliver well-balanced, high performance 3D/OpenGL and 2D graphics. With its 128-bit wide memory bus, the Borealis can draw up to sixteen 256-color pixels each memory cycle for a raw drawing speed of 2 Gbytes/s. Using the new PLX Technology PCI 6520-CA, the board supports all currently available PMC interfaces from 32-bit, 33 MHz PCI to 64-bit, 133 MHz PCI-X.

USB 2.0 On-Board
The board's four-channel USB 2.0 host controller supports data rates in excess of 400 Mbit/s; two primary channels available on the front panel (mini-AB USB OTG style) and two secondary channels via the optional rear-panel I/O connector. Only one USB OTG connector is available when the audio jacks are installed.

Video to Go!
Video input is provided via an on-board Conexant Bt878A quad-input digitizer for NTSC, PAL, or SECAM composite video or S-Video capture. The video input option utilizes spare pins on the optional DVI-I connector. A breakout cable splits the functions into a DVI connector, BNC connectors for video input, and the Ch 2 USB connector.

PMC in Stereo
Audio I/O, mono or stereo, is provided with a Micronas UAC 3555B USB Stereo CODEC. Two 3.5 mm "Walkman"-style stereo connectors are located on the front panel. The card's audio subsystem includes a 5-band equalizer, volume, balance, tone controls, and dynamic range control.

Windows and Solaris BIOS
To simplify boot-up in different operating system environments, the Sirena/PMC features a custom BIOS that supports both VGA and FCode. This enables the board to operate in virtually any x86 or SPARC system using VGA, Sync-On-Green (SOG), or DVI displays.

Conduction-Cooled PMC (CCPMC) Form Factor
The Sirena PMC follows CCPMC layout and includes the capability to provide all board access through an optional rear-panel I/O connector and laid out for the thermal connection to the primary thermal interfaces. A rear/panel I/O option Sirena/PMC is available to be installed on CCPMC CPUs and carriers.
