Metsä Board Shows Its Packaging Boards for Beautycare and Luxury Goods and Introduces Board Improvements and New Services at Luxe Pack 2012

Metsä Board, formerly known as M-real, exhibits for the first time at Luxe Pack under its new name. It shows how its sustainable packaging boards can support the quality image of premium brands, including beautycare, fragrances, cosmetics and luxury goods.

By using Metsä Board's lightweight boards, eye-catching and prestigious boxes can be designed to maintain size without adding weight. The strength of fresh forest fibres make the boards especially suitable for embossing, die-cutting and other special effects, all enhancing overall brand image.

Metsä Board's cartonboards on show at Luxe Pack include Carta Integra, Carta Elega, Carta Solida and Avanta Prima.

Metsä Board introduces at Luxe Pack improvements to Carta Elega and Avanta Prima, two of its grades especially designed for beautycare, fragrances and other applications where cleanliness and high quality appearance are essential. At the same time, the carbon footprint of both boards is estimated to be halved following the start-up of a biopower plant at the Kyro mill where they are manufactured.

"Carta Elega and Avanta Prima now have a middle layer that uses BCTMP (bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp)-" says Christophe Baudry, Commercial Director Beautycare & Healthcare, Metsä Board. "BCTMP is a pulp especially developed for its purity and lightness. This provides improved taint and odour properties as well as cleanliness. Both boards now have a triple coating on the top side, which improves printing results."

Metsä Board will also who its refreshed Chromolux cast-coated board range, making it the best of its kind for all types of printing and finishing processes with a comprehensive selection of surfaces, colours and grammages. Six of the most popular Chromolux colours are now available in 350 g/m² weight. This provides more choice for packaging of luxury products such as fragrances, where the bulk and stiffness of Chromolux gives added value to the carton.

Metsä Board highlights its Integrated Brand Packaging service, which is dedicated to enhancing global brand value and success. IBP provides customised packaging services and solutions that complement and augment its paperboard offerings.

Furthermore, Metsä Board will also announce that increased capacity of its folding boxboards is now available. Investment in its Kyro mill will result in an additional 40,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of Carta Elega and Avanta Prima, and a further 30,000 tpa of Carta Integra from its Äänekoski mill. New sheeting services have been introduced at Äänekoski and at Gohrsmühle in Germany, together with a new Express Board service to serve customers in Europe. The Express Board Service is ideal for orders with short delivery lead times and for smaller orders
