Leica Industrial Measurement Systems Launches Next-Generation LTD800 Laser Tracker

LTD800 Sets New Standards in Metrology, Rapid Measurement Cycles, and Measurement Distances

Norcross, GA - June 25, 2002 - Leica Industrial Measurement Systems, a division of Leica Geosystems, announced today it is shipping the LTD800, a groundbreaking metrology product. This latest addition to the Leica Laser Tracker family sets new standards in portable coordinate measurement by offering the fastest measurement cycle in the business for high point density
(3000 points/second). The LTD800 introduces the longest measurement distance for large volume work (0 -131.234 ft.), and provides an unrivaled range of functionality for the most complex metrology challenges. Leica Industrial Measurement Systems leads the industry with more than 900 tracker systems
installed worldwide in the toughest, most unforgiving industrial environments. A demonstration video is available upon request.

The LTD800 seamlessly integrates into a company's manufacturing processes. The laser tracking technology is used to set up, measure and inspect assembly tooling details and part mating procedures found in aerospace, automotive and shipbuilding operations. The new Tracker has an open client/server interface for customized data processing. This programmable interface also enables users to completely automate the inspection process. Later in the year, Leica will introduce a built-in Internet browser control allowing the operator to guide the tracker remotely and 100% digitally.

"The overall, unremitting quality and dependability of Leica industrial measurement systems made us the global leader in the Tracker market," states Jurgen Dold, Leica's Vice President and Business Director for Leica Trackers. "The LTD800 is certainly not the end of our story. In the near future, Leica will take laser tracking to a completely new level by adding a revolutionary set of accessories enabling the LTD800 for 6DOF (6 Degrees of Freedom)...tracking; armless, wireless probing; and handheld, non-contact 3D-scanning. The forthcoming accessories provide probing like a CMM, as well as scanning capabilities for measurement and analysis in any dimension. These next-generation elements will form an All-in-One-Solution that simply take metrology - and our customers' work - to a new dimension."

Later in the year, Leica plans to release a Tracker Camera (T-Cam), that will allow the precise measurement of position, as well as orientation, of any object in space. The Leica Tracker Probe (T-Probe) will be able to inspect and measure virtually anything anywhere, due to its unique ability to measure inside deep parts and tools. Another tracker accessory is the hand-held Tracker Scanner (T-Scan) This device will digitize complex surfaces with virtually no set-up time for subsequent inspection and reverse engineering. All are compatible with the LTD800.
