Methacrylate Adhesives bond thermoplastics.

Press Release Summary:

Araldite(R) 2000 adhesives bond most thermoplastics including ABS, PVC, polyester, polystyrenes, and acrylics as well as fiberglass-reinforced composites. They can join plastics to metals, concrete or stone, usually with minimal pretreatment. Adhesives include Araldite 2021, for bonding to ferrous metals and thermoplastics; 2022 for assembly of hard-to-bond plastic and composite substrates; and 2024 for flexible bonds on broad range of substrates.

Original Press Release:

Methacrylate Adhesives Join Vantico's Araldite(R) 2000 Product Line

LOS ANGELES, March 18, 2002 - Vantico will begin marketing three advanced methacrylate formulations as part of its family of Araldite structural adhesives, it was announced today at the National Design Engineering Show and Conference 2002, Chicago, Illinois. The adhesives are specifically designed to bond most thermoplastics including ABS, PVC, polyester, polystyrenes and acrylics as well as fiberglass-reinforced composites. Moreover, the toughened materials can join plastics to metals, concrete or stone, usually with minimal pretreatment.

The three products comprising Vantico's new methacrylate line are:

- Araldite 2021 - A versatile, toughened adhesive, Araldite 2021 provides for excellent bonding to both ferrous metals and thermoplastics. It features high shear and peel strengths, good resistance to chemical and water exposure and a service temperature of up to 212°F (1000C). The adhesive also has good gap filling properties and cures quickly in less than 18 minutes at room temperature.

- Araldite 2022 - This two-component, toughened material features excellent resistant to oil and gas exposure for assembly of hard-to-bond plastic and composite substrates with minimal pretreatment. It is gap filling and fast curing with a work life of 10 minutes and cure time of less than 30 minutes.

- Araldite 2024 - A high-impact, high peel strength adhesive, this methacrylate is formulated to produce tough, flexible bonds on a broad range of substrates. It has a four to five-minute work life and 15-minute cure time at room temperature. After curing, the adhesive maintains outstanding shear strength even when exposed to 158deg F (70deg C) bake temperatures for 90 days.

Vantico's Araldite methacrylates are packaged in easy-to-use dual-barrel cartridges. The cartridges provide for precise mixing and controlled dispensing that minimizes waste and reduces application time. Vantico also carries accessories including dispensing guns and mixing nozzles.
