Metal Oxide Varistors range from 60-680 Vrms.

Press Release Summary:

Available in standard sizes from 23-60 mm, single layer Series ZOV handles up to 80 kA of current and more than 4,100 W. Offered in round, square, and dual or triple stacked models, units feature epoxy coating, rigid terminations, or metallized blocks. Flat to slightly positive temperature coefficient for clamping voltage ensures that device will clamp at stated clamping voltage and prevent part from failing due to current overload.

Stackpole Electronics, Inc. Presents High-Energy Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV)

High current, high-energy transient suppression device offers superior protection...

RALEIGH, NC (October, 2005) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc. has introduced a single layer metal oxide varistor for protection against high current, high energy transients. Designated the ZOV Series, these parts operate in voltages that range from 60 to 680 VRMS in standard sizes from 23 mm to 60 mm. The ZOV Series is capable of handling up to 80kA of current (8/20 µs) and more than 4100 Watts (in a single device).

Stackpole offers the ZOV Series in various models: Round (ZOVR); Square (ZOV), and Dual or Triple Stacked (ZOVS) - which can achieve higher current and energy handling capabilities. The ZOV is available with epoxy coating, rigid terminations or with metallized blocks - which makes it ideal for soldering or pressure contacts.

As with all of its varistor products, Stackpole's ZOV Series has a flat to slightly positive temperature coefficient for its clamping voltage. This feature ensures that the device will clamp at the stated clamping voltage and prevent the part from failing due to current overload. In addition, "the ZOV's has superior energy and current handling capabilities compared to our competitors," remarks Rob Hudspeth, Stackpole's Director of Sales.

The ZOV is ideal for service entrances (distribution panels) of buildings, surge arrestors, industrial motors, power suppliers and controls. It can be customized to meet the requirements of a unique application. Stackpole encourages engineers to call and discuss their requirements so a part can be designed specifically for a particular application.

Typical lead-time for the ZOV Series is 8 weeks for production quantities. Samples are immediately available. ZOV and ZOVR Series are UL and CS Approved.
