Metal Oxide Varistors protect circuits.

Press Release Summary:

TPMOV thermally protected MOVs have high surge-energy capacity, are self-protected against steady-state over-voltages, and have built-in thermal protection with no fault current-level limitations. They are rated to withstand 40kA of surge current with available maximum continuing operating voltage ratings from 150 to 600 Vac. Replacements are available for Maida S75 series of high-energy MOVs and the Siemens B40K and LS40K strap/block MOVs.

Ferraz Shawmut Enhances its Line of TPMOV Devices

Fail-Safe Devices Now Available to Replace Standard MOVs

NEWBURYPORT, Mass., March 18, 2002 - Ferraz Shawmut, a global leader in the field of circuit protection, recently enhanced its line of Thermally Protected Metal-Oxide Varistors (TPMOVs). Replacements are now available for the Maida S75 series of high-energy MOVs and the Siemens B40K and LS40K strap/block MOVs.

Unlike traditional MOVs, which are susceptible to damage from over-voltage conditions, TPMOVs were developed to be fail-safe devices that not only have high surge-energy capacity, but also are self-protected against steady-state over-voltages. Composed of a metal-oxide varistor and built-in visual and remote indicators, the TPMOV is the only product that offers built-in thermal protection with no fault current-level limitations. While traditional MOVs can rupture when their energy rating is exceeded, the TPMOV disconnects from system power, protecting itself and surrounding components from damage. The newest TPMOVs are rated to withstand 40ka of 8/20 microsec surge current with available maximum continuing operating voltage (MCOV) ratings from 150VAC to 600VAC.
