Thermo Electron Corporation Raises Global Standards in Metal Detection With the Launch of the Goring Kerr DSP Rx

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. and NEW YORK (March 16, 2004) - Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE:TMO) has unveiled the first metal detection unit to incorporate its patented QuadraCoil(TM) system - a major breakthrough in coil development providing up to 15 to 20 per cent improvements in sensitivity levels. Setting exciting new global standards in quality control for the pharmaceutical industry, the Goring Kerr DSP Rx is designed to screen pills and capsules at the outfeed of tablet presses and capsule filling machines.

This advanced new model offers the choice of four aperture sizes. For ease of installation and maximum mobility within the plant, the Goring Kerr DSP Rx can be fully adjusted quickly for varying infeed heights, from 760 mm to 960 mm, and angular adjustments of 20 to 40 degrees.

Thermo focused heavily on Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) while developing this metal detctor. As a result, all pneumatics and cables are contained within the unit's stand for maximum hygiene. All mounting bars have round profiles to remove risk of debris and bacteria traps. Also, the system features an open frame design and offers mirror polished stainless steel as a standard finish.

Other key hygiene enhancements include operating the reject remotely from within the metal detector's cabinet. Also, the new failsafe reject system and chute are removed easily for cleaning. All suspect product is diverted into an integral lockable reject container, which is also removable for cleaning.

This latest metal detector model also incorporates the patented and well-proven AuditCheck self-monitoring system. This allows the Goring Kerr DSP Rx to monitor its performance levels automatically and provide an alert if re-calibration is required. This process eliminates the need for manual performance checks. To prevent risk of dust build-up inside the AuditCheck tube, Thermo has now sealed the system within the search head.

Backed by full validation documentation and comprehensive after market support, the Goring Kerr DSP Rx is available globally from Thermo. A checkweigher to partner the Goring Kerr DSP Rx is also available for the pharmaceutical sector.

This and many other Thermo Electron products will be exhibited at INTERPHEX 2004, held at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City from March 16-18. Please visit us at booth #D401.
