Metal-Cored Wire Excels on Robotic Welding Applications, Improves Productivity

TROY, Ohio - To improve productivity, particularly on robotic or automated welding applications, Hobart Brothers offers its Hobart® FabCOR® 86R gas-shielded metal-cored wire. The wire operates well on both constant voltage (CV) and pulsed welding power sources, and is good for welding non-alloyed and fine grain steels, rail cars, storage vessels, steel structures and in heavy equipment manufacturing.

Similar to other metal-cored wires from Hobart Brothers, the FabCOR 86R wire provides high deposition rates and efficiencies to speed the welding process, along with smooth arc characteristics that help ensure consistent weld quality and minimize rework for defects. The wire has low spatter levels and virtually no slag coverage, allowing for multi-pass welding without deslagging and reducing downtime for post-weld cleanup.

The FabCOR 86R wire operates with a shielding gas mixture of 75-95 percent argon with a CO2 balance or 95 percent argon and 5 percent oxygen, and produces a weld bead with low diffusible hydrogen. Depending on the shielding gas mixture, hydrogen levels fall between 1.8 and 2.8 ml per 100 g of weld metal - values that help significantly reduce the opportunity for cracking.

Hobart Brothers offers the FabCOR 86R wire in 0.045-, 0.052-, 1/16- and 3/32-inch diameters on 33- or 44-pound spools, 60-pound coils or in the exclusive 750- or 900-pound X-Pak. The X-Pak is a precision payout drum that provides a straight wire feed with excellent seam tracking for robotic welding applications. It also helps eliminate weld defects such as undercut or lack of fusion, and helps extend contact tip and liner life.
