New Metal Cored Electrode for Critical Cast Iron Applications

Fort Loramie, OH - Select-Arc, Inc. has introduced a metal cored electrode designed to weld cast irons that demand increased strength at relatively higher temperatures combined with ease of fabrication. This new metal cored wire, Select 2216-C, is well suited for joining cast irons to alloy and carbon steels.

Select 2216-C features a 41% nickel containing alloy with added stabilizers and yields a uniformly smooth bead with low spatter, good penetration and nice wash. The weld metal not only has high tensile strength in the 90,000 psi range, but also provides 15% elongation, which makes it an extremely tough and ductile alloy for cast irons.

Select 2216-C is utilized for welding with high strength nodular or spherical graphite cast irons although it can generally be used with all other cast irons as well as dissimilar joints between cast irons to steels. Typical critical applications for Select 2216-C include automotive exhaust systems, catalytic converters and the repair and welding of cast iron pipe attachments.
