Overview

To remain competitive, financial institutions must offer innovative products while reducing time to market and minimizing development costs. Financial institutions realize that integrating and upgrading their heterogeneous systems and business applications lets them take a giant step toward achieving these goals. Furthermore, they all must do this in an environment where reliability, availability, and resilience are paramount.

One challenge that financial institutions currently face is to migrate from the X.25-based SWIFT Transport Network (STN) to the new IP-based SWIFT Secure IP Network (SIPN). This new network enables utilization of the new SWIFTNet services, such as InterAct or FileAct.

WebSphere® Business Integration for Financial Networks (FN) Bridge for SWIFTNet for z/OS® (Bridge for SWIFTNet), together with the previously announced WebSphere Business Integration for FN Base, specifically addresses these issues. WebSphere Business Integration for FN is a business integration platform that serves as a messaging hub from which a broad range of financial applications can share centralized message-processing services, especially services that provide centralized access to various financial networks such as the SIPN, FEDNET, RadianzNet, or clearing and settlement systems such as RTGSplus, Fedwire, CHIPS, and EBA STEP2.

The new extension, WebSphere Business Integration for FN Bridge for SWIFTNet for z/OS is designed for financial institutions that require access to the SWIFT Secure IP Network in z/OS environments. It provides valuable services both for customers who are first-time users of the SIPN, as well as for current users of the X.25-based SWIFT Transport Network (STN) who need to migrate to the SIPN. Bridge for SWIFTNet provides the means to centrally:

o Configure, administer, operate, and monitor a large number of SWIFTAlliance Gateways (SAGs) from within WebSphere Business Integration for FNs

o Issue SWIFTNet administration commands such as Local Registration Application (LRA), Key Management Authority (KMA), and Role Based Access Control (RBAC)

Bridge for SWIFTNet also provides:

o SWIFTNet FIN services that let customers send FIN messages via the SIPN

o SWIFTNet InterAct services that allow applications to exchange InterAct messages with other applications

o Sample SWIFTNet InterAct client and server applications

o A SWIFTNet FileAct service that lets applications send and retrieve files via the SIPN
