Motorola Expands Manufacturing Software Portfolio To Bring Increased Control And Process Management To The Factory

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Illinois - October 2, 2001 - Motorola (NYSE: MOT) announced today the expansion of its manufacturing software portfolio to include a new application entitled Manufacturing Intellitrak. This MES (Manufacturing Execution System) application, introduced by Motorola's Global Software Group, expands monitoring and control capabilities within the enterprise and offers the perfect compliment to GSG's Manufacturing Pulse software application announced in June of this year. Designed to collect, process and track the product-specific parameters necessary to make the right decisions in the factory, Manufacturing Intellitrak enables electronics manufacturers to control product quality and reliability, while tracking genealogy information.

Manufacturing Intellitrak helps facilitate quality improvement through proactive control and management of the production processes, including component verification, process control and build-recipe verification. Real-time utilization and performance data from factory processes are collected and used to determine efficiency. Defects and repairs are logged to provide a complete product history, which is fed into the Manufacturing Intellitrak genealogy database. As a result, traceability is easily maintained, allowing for quick access to product data and genealogy.

Motorola Six Sigma Black Belts, experts in quality improvement, assisted in designing, enhancing and optimizing this application, which is now a significant component of Motorola's Six Sigma quality initiative. Motorola, over the decade from 1987 to 1997, has documented billions of dollars in savings resulting from defect elimination, improved employee productivity and improved product reliability since the start of this initiative.

Manufacturing Intellitrak has the flexibility to interface across multi-vendor lines within a factory, resulting in error-free data drawn directly from each station on the line. The software eliminates human intervention and discrepancies among disparate applications that can impact the validity and reliability of process data. Visibility to pure data at all levels of the enterprise, as provided by Manufacturing Intellitrak, is being demanded by the industry and is quickly becoming the key to success in manufacturing today. Manufacturing Intellitrak enables a single solution for multi-vendor lines and therefore provides an economical solution for the enterprise.
