Cognitec Systems' FaceVACS New Generation of Matching Algorithms Power Merkatum's
emfiva-FRS System for the State of Michoacan
AUSTIN, Texas- Merkatum Corporation, a leading developer and provider of multi-biometric identity management solutions, today announced the successful implementation of the largest and most advanced facial recognition identification system in Mexico for the State of Michoacan.
The deployment of the Company's emfiva-FRS(TM) biometric system enables an important
component of a state-wide integrated public safety program directed at improving criminal intelligence and reducing identity-fraud. Local law enforcement agencies will dramatically accelerate investigation procedures and substantially improve criminal detention rates by using the system. This will be achieved by positively matching duplicate identities of suspect individuals from existing image databases and correlating them to open criminal cases for subsequent field action. As part of this project, Merkatum provided its client with a turnkey service consisting of strategy design, database analysis, biometric system deployment, facial image adjudication, and watchlist management activities.
The implemented emfiva-FRS(TM) facial recognition system effectively compares one photograph against 1,000,000 others with very high matching throughput and precision rates. Its unique business process-oriented architecture enables system users to maximize value by managing biometric functions and role-based activity work flows in a seamless, flexible, secure, and simple manner. The system's facial recognition engine is powered by Cognitec's FaceVACS B3 advanced matching algorithm. This technology was selected as one of the most precise ones in the world according to recent evaluation tests performed by NIST (FRVT2006).
