Megger Innovates at PowerTest

Dallas, TX, February 25, 2009 - In Booth 413 at the 2009 PowerTest Electrical Maintenance and Safety Conference, which is being held March 9-12 at the Grand Hyatt, San Antonio, Texas, Megger is showcasing a greatly extended range of test equipment for use with power transformers as well as circuit breaker analyzers, battery load units and the latest version of its versatile MPRT protection relay test set.

For fast, convenient and dependable determination of the moisture content of insulation in power transformers and other power system equipment, Megger is showing the IDAX range of Dielectric Frequency Response Analyzers. Compact and light, yet featuring rugged construction, these instruments allow tests to be carried out at any temperature without adverse affects on the accuracy of the results.

Complementing the IDAX products are FRAX Sweep Frequency Response Analyzers, which are designed for detecting electromechanical changes in power transformers without the need for disassembly, and the latest TTR300 three-phase transformer turns ratio testers, which are many times faster to use than conventional testers of this type.

The TM1800 circuit breaker analyzers being shown by Megger feature a modular design that allows them to be configured for use with any type of breaker. Facilities for measuring multiple parameters simultaneously dramatically reduce the time required for testing, while a new type of timing channel not only measures contact timing but also provides values for series resistance and the main contact resistance.

For evaluating the condition of storage batteries, Torkel battery load units are being shown. These allow discharge tests - universally recognized as the most accurate way of assessing battery condition - to be performed easily and efficiently.

Sharing the spotlight in the Megger booth is the MPRT protection relay test set, which has a strong reputation for reliability, versatility and ease of use. The latest version incorporates numerous software and firmware enhancements, many of which add new functionality, further extending its scope of application.

Megger will be hosting the PowerDB Users Group on 8 March, 10am until 12pm, and on 9 March will be hosting an entertaining evening in the Hospitality Suite, 8-10pm. On 10 March at 7-9pm, Megger will be holding an auction of ex-demonstration equipment. Over 40 items will go under the hammer and will feature products ranging from the MPRT protection relay test set to the PFL-4000 cable fault locator, and the BITE 2P battery impedance set to the TTR300 transformer test set.

Throughout the PowerTest Conference, experts from Megger with a wide experience of testing in power applications will be on hand not only to explain the benefits of the company's products, but also to discuss and provide advice on the specific testing requirements of those who visit the booth.
