Medium Voltage Fuse integrates controllable actuator modules.

Press Release Summary:

Applicable whether searching for sensitive overload protection solution or arc-flash mitigation, 15 kV Medium Voltage Controllable Fuse (MVCF) fits into existing fuse cabinets and integrates controllable fuse actuator/interface modules, fiber optic cable connection, and low-voltage control cabinet. Design facilitates connection and installation within standard transformer fuse enclosures.

Original Press Release:

Mersen to Showcase the Latest in Fuse Technology During IEEE Electrical Safety Workshop (ESW), March 6-11, 2016

NEWBURYPORT – Mersen will feature the Medium Voltage Controllable Fuse during the product and services expo portion of the IEEE Electrical Safety Workshop, booth 615, on March 9th.

A full demonstration of the Mersen 15kV Medium Voltage Controllable Fuse (MVCF) built-in enclosure will be on display and aimed to showcase the ease of connection and installation within standard transformer fuse enclosures. The MVCF fits into existing fuse cabinets, providing normal short-circuit and overload protection. Whether you are looking for a sensitive overload protection solution or arc-flash mitigation, the MVCF provides a cutting-edge cost effective product with minimal installation downtime.

The enclosure will highlight the integration of the following:

• Controllable Fuse Actuator Module

• Controllable Fuse Interface Module

• Fiber Optic Cable Connection

• Low Voltage Control Cabinet

Mersen developed the Medium Voltage Controllable Fuse in response to OSHA Code 29 CFR-1910 Subpart S, requiring employers to identify and analyze arc-flash hazards and provide adequate personal protective equipment (PPE). For many installations, the arc-flash energy is over 40 cal/cm2, which is too high for PPE, requiring owners to prevent access to those areas unless power is disconnected. This is typically unworkable and does not mitigate the hazard.

Additionally, Mersen engineers will be co presenting two papers at this year's IEEE Electrical Safety Workshop that highlight how fuse technology can be used with innovative products to provide dramatic reductions in arc flash incident energy in equipment that is typically labeled "Dangerous." These innovations reduce incident energy to levels that could allow workers to wear 'Daily Wear' PPE for interaction with the equipment.

If you would like to see a full demonstration and learn more about the advantages of using Mersen’s MVCF, stop by booth# 615 where Mersen will have a team of technical experts on hand to discuss your application challenges.
