Original Press Release:

Wilmington Machinery Introduces the New LUMINA MP800 Medium Pressure Injection Molding Machine

The LUMINA MP800 was specifically developed to fill the void that exists between high-pressure and low-pressure injection molding machines.

The new LUMINA MP800 features include:

800 ton (700 metric) two platen type press with linear bearing support/guidance system

98" X 68" (2489 X 1727 mm) mold space

Stroke of 108" (2743mm)

Clamp speed of 2000 IPM (5080 cm/min), and hydraulic ejection

Two-stage type with a 6" (152mm) extruder with 2000 lb/hr 900 kg/hr, 44 lb (20 kg) accumulator shot capacity and a 10,000 PSI (900 bar) injection pressure capability

Cycle times between 30-90 seconds

An electric extruder drive and available smart variable frequency press hydraulic power unit makes the MP800 energy efficient.

The LUMINA MP 800 is capable of molding both solid and foamed parts with density reductions from 5 - 50% dependent upon the foaming method and type of gas.  Molds are either cold runner or hot runner types and typically have aluminum cavity plates for faster cycles or gas assist for further cycle reduction or improved definition.  The machines' control system is designed to meet the needs of all process types.  The machine is fully capable of processing commodity and engineering types of thermoplastic materials including recycled materials up to 100%.

Applications for this new LUMINA MP800 machine include:

Material handling (pallets, bins, crates)

Enclosures (utilities, electronics)

Automotive (interior, exterior parts)

Recreational

Many others

Since its' founding in 1972, Wilmington Machinery has been building high performance, low-pressure structural foam molding machines.  In addition, the company has built custom extrusion, thermoforming, and industrial blow molding machinery, along with a primary line of high capacity rotary blow molding systems for polyolefin monolayer/ multilayer barrier blow molded packaging. From a modern 65,000 SF facility in Wilmington, North Carolina, the company can easily meet any customer's need for extra-large plastics machinery. International shipments can also be arranged through the nearby deep-water Port of Wilmington.
